Roger Whittaker was one of my parent's favourites and they used to play the cartridge (yes, cartridge!) of the "New world in the morning" album on longish car journeys.

We are in Cornwall at the moment. Woke up to read about Gareth and Roger, then while driving to Padstow we were called to hear our neighbor of47 years had passed. Hope that's it for a while. Feeling sad.

Suitably seen off in style this afternoon. A lot of laughter and a few tears.

(Moved me to come & report and reacquaint myself with this emporium - hope you are well, Colin?)

Gareth Turner (GT) has left the planet.

Such sad news.

I saw Richard Digence at a local folk club on Wednesday, he'd been to GT's funeral. Sounded like a very lively affair, with c120 musicians playing their instruments as part of the funeral cortege.
GT must have been a very popular man indeed.

Hereward Kaye from the band Cafe Society. They were Tom Robinson's first band.

It is less than a month since I received the CD of their complete studio works (mostly produced by Ray Davies) with a nice hand written note of thanks from Hereward. They were being sold in aid of his medical care. It is very sad.

I saw Cafe Society supporting BJH in the 70s. I thought they were pretty good, especially in comparison with the most of the support bands I saw in that era.

I was surprised none of the obits mentioned "Twist & Shout".

Maybe he didn't sing on that?

They were one of the many artists who had a hit with it...were they the first...maybe...but it was a cover, wasn't it?

Yes, albeit the first hit version. But Shout (as in Lulu) was an original so there might be some confusion. I haven't read the obits. Does Shout get a mention?
