Thanks - Yes I do unleash my music on the public. I opened for Martin Carthy last year at Hitchin Folk Club . He was joined by Chris Parkinson who has played with Ralph and he is another great guy. Strangely enough I also met another guitarist in Cornwall last week- Pete Berryman who has also played on Ralph's albums some years ago- Its a small world!! There are McTell links everywhere!

Regarding Ralph on TV- I really wish the'd repeat the Old Grey Whistle Test concert that Ralph did in the 70's . If anyone has a copy let us know!

Well, there is this one, Martin Cool  ( just in case you haven't noticed yet )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c6evjH_Oh4

And then I have another song (can't remember which one atm. ) from that (?)
Old Grey Whistle test show - I shall see what I can do for you Wink

Would you happen to know, how many songs Ralph played on that occassion?
Or was he a guest there several times?

I have 7 tracks from OGWT aired on 9 November 1976, but on CD not DVD. A DVD would be good if a full recording exists! Meanwhile, if anyone wants the audio only version...

Weather the Storm, Dry Bone Rag, Clare to Here, Naomi, Old Grey Rag (aka Five Knuckle Shuffle on RAS), May You Never, Big Tree.

Sounds interesting, John.

I also have a couple of songs from a 40 years anniversary radio show about
OGWT (Radio version?), where Ralph is talking to Bob Harris and some other
guy in the studio ( back then? ). The songs are a fantastic version of
Zimmerman Blues" & "Gypsy".

And recently I came across some nice Ralph stuff from Radio Ulster btw. -
so please stay tuned for more info ;-)

The second OGWT video I mentioned, is "When Maddy Dances" - rebroadcast
much later as part of the recent "Songwriters of the BBC" series, where the "Dry Bone Rag"
version on YouTube also came from. I think I have seen one more song from this show -
so I am scowering my archives here, but I may be wrong  Roll Eyes

This version of WMD is really amazing - Ralph accompanied by bass player Danny Thompson
and really getting carried away in his wonderful song  Cool - And ... it's even from his
huge sideburns period  Roll Eyes

I have a friend who told me he went to the pub,and would watch The old grey whistle test after he returned home [early closing?] However I do remember him saying, he set a tape recorder up with the Mike dangling over the TV speaker, began watching the show and fell asleep! I share this only because it shows Ralphs durability? ...Tape recorder...no VHS or DVD! I got the impression that Ralph was possibly the only quest? or more likely the main one. I was told Old grey Whistle was THE music programme

I was the one who actually taped the audio sound of the OGW concert years ago and John converted it to CD from the very old tape I had. I remember writing to the BBC and they said they didn't have a copy of the show. However years later a few  songs mentioned have appeared from the TV show so they must exist somewhere. We need a contact in the BBC.

Yes, a wonderful classic from DR - Denmark's Radio ('s TV Department.

It's from 1975, and it was originally broadcast as 3 or 4 short programmes.
This complete (?) version is from a rebroadcast in ca. 2005, as part of a
golden TV hours series.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0404961/fullcredits#cast
Ralph and the others playing themselves - what a relief!  Cool

[ fire [feer-e] = four in Danish - so not as exciting as one might think at first glance  Roll Eyes ]

And I have it downloaded of course - you are welcome to a copy, if you don't have it already -
or don't know how.

Most of the time I don't mind not subscribing to enhancing Rupert Murdoch's wealth, but this is one of those times when I just have to sigh and miss out.  Sad

For those not on mailing list? In December 2013 Ralph performed at the Bert Jansch tribute concert, this was filmed as part of the programme "The Genius of Bert Jansch: Folk Blues and Beyond" we have just heard that this will be broadcast on BBC4 this Friday evening at 10pm, followed by Berts 60th filmed at St Lukes. Ralph will be appearing in both.

Thanks, Tryer.

Wednesday 6th May, 10.30pm - Live With… Ralph McTell

He took us by the hand and led us through ‘The Streets of London’ in the 1970s and went on to become an iconic figure on the UK and international folk scene. So we are hugely proud to present a live session with this English singer songwriter and acoustic guitarist who will perform songs from his extensive and beloved back catalogue.

Tuesday 25th September at 10pm on BBC2.  Jools Holland programme includes Ralph McTell.  I hope Mr H doesn't play loud honky tonk piano over whatever Ralph is performing!
