One thing that is odd about these "X played instead of Ringo" etc theories is that it suggests there must have been a massive X-Files style conspiracy to cover it up so that George Martin, the engineers and other studio personnel were all in on keeping it under wraps and the "truth" is only emerging now almost 50 years later..

Indeed.  Utter nonsense!

Here's an interesting dissection of the Purdie claims:

Well that puts it to bed and waves goodbye to any claims Purdie made.

Which is as I'd have expected, really.

If someone has replaced all of Ringo's parts, how much of Ringo is left?  Is he now completely bionic??  Grin

Couldn't be bothered to start a new thread...but this interview looks quite interesting, if you like that sort of thing.

Why do I always want to learn guitar in August?

« Reply #67 on: November 06, 2012, 08:24:43 PM »

I spoke to my (much older more mature older) sister in Australia over the weekend. She said she had heard the new remasters on CD and they weren't a patch on the original vinyl nor how they sounded when she used to go to The Cavern.

Funny how I never win musical Top Trumps against her.

Bless their little cotton socks. For the vinyl reissue, the stereo remasters will be out in time for Christmas, but the mono versions won't be released until 2013.

The stereo versions are £300. What's the betting that the mono versions will be a "strictly limited edition" (pull the other one) at the bargain price of £400?  Roll Eyes

Just like the "limited" edition of the CD Mono Remasters. Only I don't believe they are any more.

Still, if someone is a completest, and has near on a thousand quid burning a hole in their pocket, these for them.

But they are most certainly not for me.

But Returns are enabled according to Ebay - and the listing.

I've reported the item as possibly counterfeit to Ebay.

Counterfeiting an entire box set - that's going some!

It seems a very odd comment to have put on the listing. The pictures certainly look genuine enough but I guess it is possible that they are generic and not the actual article. Nice fireplace though!

Large counterfeit quantities of the box sets were made in China and sold in bulk, minimum quantites 12, at ridiculously low prices. I viewed the websites at the time. Shady dealers picked them up and sold on ebay at slightly less than everyone else.
A friend of mine bought stereo and mono , found they were counterfeit and claimed the cash back off ebay. The seller wouldnt give his address so he couldnt send them back.  Grin

They looked reasonable apart from a few minor and one major problem.
The mono box contained stereo discs. Grin
There were no inserts, or inner sleeves for the white album.
The artwork was good enough to have been copied except one disc had the Beatles names spelled incorrectly and another had tracklisting problems.
A lot of folk would have been taken in, I mean who needs to look at the sleeve to know who The Beatles are or what song is playing?

Here we go again. Yet more re-releases for you to collect. And all for £18 quid. This time the re-release is the film HELP, but on blu-ray. Better picture quality is guaranteed, as will be sound. An hours worth of extras too. Anybody going for this one?
