In other news, the US albums are now listed individually on Amazon, totally overpriced at £14.99 each and with completely the wrong track listings in several cases.  Roll Eyes

I expected the unfriendly prices.  Always the way with The Fabs.

Bootleg Recordings 1963 is back up on iTunes.  Oh, and look, it's had a price hike too:-

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/beatles-bootleg-recordings/id778642269

 Angry

Guess I'll be getting it unofficially after all.

It's there now and £35 for the equivalent of a double album.

I'll wait and see if it is still there when I get home and then decide.

I suspect that Apple/Universal underestimated the demand, pulled the original product and then stirred up a fever so that they could increase the price and make a quick killing. It is all a bit shoddy.

Anyone noticed the copyright? Not Apple intriguingly - "℗ 2013 The copyright in these sound recordings is owned by Calderstone Productions Limited (a division of Universal Music Group)."

It has apparently just disappeared again from the US site. Little chance of it still being available in the UK in two hours then.

There's supposed to be a similar Beach Boys collection today - any sightings?

Well, predictably, The Beatles collection is now available where it shouldn't be!

OK, so I succumbed and am now listening. Clearly this was not designed as just some throwaway to preserve the copyright. It sounds gorgeous, has been remastered with great care and the studio outtakes have been mixed into stereo which would not have been how they were recorded. It does however raise a number of questions.

For example, the collection contains Misery takes 1 & 7. A further take is the definitive version which appears on the Please Please Me album. That leaves at least four further takes. If this was intended as a shelf clearing exercise to preserve the copyright and prevent exploitation of the unreleased material by any old Tom, Dick or Harry in the public domain, shouldn't all of the unreleased takes have been included? Just a thought.

Cross purposes - Steve means there's a double CDs worth of material, not that it's a double CD price.

My theory is that they only used the takes already in the hands of the bootleggers.

Yes, that would make sense. I guess we can probably look forward to one of these sets per year for the next 6 years. I just hope they make less of a shambles of issuing them than they did with this one yesterday.

It would if I was right.  Here's a list of all the 1963 tracks that have been bootlegged that weren't included:-

Not that this sort of thing should be regarded as "collectable". As tattoos go, it's pretty special, but it's something I wont aspire to. More images can be found  by image searching your preferred search engine.

Mods. If this is regarded as unsuitable, plse delete.

Spin have the American Beatles CDs for £9.99 a pop.  I just pre-ordered the A Hard Day's Night soundtrack, and "Yesterday"... And Today.  Couldn't help myself.   Roll Eyes

Beatles' US albums CDs set to majorly disappoint by not using all available US mix variants.  Even allowing for the wish not to use fake stereo versions or "Dexterized" reverb-added versions, they should still have used all alternate pukka mixes.  All they needed to do was do a little research on the internet.  Next time, they should let the fans have a voice.   Angry
