Here's one of the more unusual Beatles items to collect. Even if I could afford it, I can safely say I wouldn't want it... http://gawker.com/5857193/john-lennons-rotten-tooth-sells-for-ungodly-amount-of-money

Too soon Chris! I was hoping Al would reply with a yeah. Then your post would have given us a yeah yeah yeah in true Beatley fashion. (These stupid things lighten up my sad existence.)

Not that this can be collected, but it is of interest. Mark Lewisohn talks about "The Beatles: All These Years" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2nn4kExJMM

Looks like the price of The Beatles - All These Years - Extended Special Edition: Volume One: Tune In (Hardcover) is starting to come down. Today in Amazon it can be bought for £64.80 + £2.80 UK delivery. It's always nice to own something that not everyone will have. But is it worth all that money. Now going through on-line reviews. I suspect that Beatles lovers will love it, and the haters, well....
The other question on my mind is, is it worth going for the "cheaper" book? Is it likely that maybe the cover is torn, or some other problem.
(yes, I AM being tempted)

I'd buy a cheap one, torn cover or not. You can always repair the cover. But close to seventy quid is still too rich for me. Jules

For instance, brother-in-law found me a brand new copy of Harrisons Living In The Material World hardback for just £2.00. Even now, it's still £21.60 on Amazon.

Sounds a bit like he''s drumming up a bit of extra publicity. Johns book hasn't received the best of reviews...

Sounds a bit like he''s drumming up a bit of extra publicity. Johns book hasn't received the best of reviews... Aye, I think you're right... Thirty, or even 20 years ago I'd have taken exception to Johns making that sort of talk. Mind, I was one of those ones who could see no wrong in anything that the Beatles ever did. Today though, I can see that Johns is most probably correct in his "Spector" comments. He did produce some pap on Let It Be.

I mostly loathe what Spector did to those tapes. But then Johns's original album was even worse - he choice of takes for many of the songs was just plain baffling - I've Got A Feeling was an incomplete run-through, and the version of Dig A Pony he picked was leaden. Let It Be... Naked was a golden opportunity to finally get it right, but they failed on a few counts (not least by preserving Spector's structural edits to Dig A Pony). The best version of that album is the one I did for myself, though I do say so myself, despite the hindrance of having my own trumpet placed firmly in my mouth. Jules

After over 30 years of just about everyone whingeing about Spector ruining Let It Rot Be, which i think even the most rabid Beatles apologist will admit that it isnt a great record, Macca got hold of the tapes in order to give the album a decent reputation and all he could come up with was the vastly inferior LIB Nekkid. Just goes to show that you can sling all the great producers, engineers and musos you can lay your hands on but no matter how much buffing and polishing you apply, a turd is still just a turd.

I don't know, "turd" is a bit much. Two Of Us, I've Got A Feeling, Let It Be, the non-Spector-ized The Long And Winding Road, Get Back, Across The Universe. Pretty damn good songs, and performances.
