I can't for the life of me think why anyone would want any take of What's The New Mary Jane. Wasn't the master take on Anthology?
It's a messed up remix of the master originally dating from the Sessions project. Same with Not Guilty and various other songs from Anthology. Looks like we'll now be getting the genuine master of Not Guilty though. I actually enjoy Mary Jane (stop thinking of your own jokes at the back). Probably one of the few who do. I certainly prefer it to: Revolution 9; Wild Honey Pie; Don't Pass Me By; and maybe a couple of others from the album proper. Jules

You don't like Don't Pass Me By? Burn the heretic! I think it's awful, Gub. Amateur hour all round. I'd much rather listen to Living In Hope by The Rutles. Ringo's Beatles songs I actively do like: Act Naturally; Octopus's Garden; With A Little Help From My Friends; What Goes On?; Boys. You can probably keep the rest (except maybe Yellow Submarine once a decade or so). Jules

In fact I am not even that fond of Act Naturally or Boys. But I like Goodnight in the context of the album and I think DPMB is a lot of fun. The sloppiness is clearly deliberate and is part its charm. It sort of points the direction for the Beaucoups of Bllues album (as does Act Naturally) to which I am now going to listen.

GubGub and Jules are right, it would have been Johns wishes. But I absolutely agree with Bridgwit, that Yoko is an annoying woman.

I've always mistrusted a lot of the anti-Yoko vibes. Some of it is loaded with misogyny, some of it with racism, though much of it is pure and simple Beatle jealousy. Now let me make this clear - I am not suggesting either Bridge or David are being any of these things, simply that against such historical concerns, I've tended to be something of a Yoko apologist. If there's someone you can live without, then do so And if there's someone you can just shove out, well do so You can be my Yoko Ono You can follow me wherever I go Be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa oh Isn't it beautiful to see two people so much in love? Bare naked as two virgins hand in hand, and hand in hand in love Now that I'm far away it doesn't seem to me to be such a pain To have you hanging off my ankle like some kind of ball and chain You can be my Yoko Ono You can follow me wherever I go Be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa oh (be my Yoko) Oh no, here we go Our life is just one big pun Ono, here we go as Yoko sings woo ho ho ho ho ho I know that when I say this I may be stepping on pins and needles (ho ho whoa) But I don't like all these people slagging her for breaking up the Beatles (Don't blame it on Yokey) I mean if I was John and you were Yoko I would gladly give up musical genius Just to have you as my very own personal Venus You can be my Yoko Ono (oh, whoa oh) You can follow me wherever I go Be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa oh Be my, be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa Be my, be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa Be my, be my, be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, whoa whoa oh

Jules Have you read Cynthia Lennon's book about her years with John and beyond? Obviously there was no love lost between her and Yoko but there was one occasion when Cynthia and various famous friends had organised a benefit gig and at the last minute Yoko announced that she was organising an identical event in America which threw a massive Spaniard in the works as John might have said. That seemed like a pretty spiteful thing to do. But it was also very clear in the book that by the mid-60s John and Cynthia wanted very different things in life. She was trying to hang on to her family life with him and Julian but John was just drifting further and further away from her. Enter Yoko and the rest, as they say, is history.

I tell you something if I had been in a relationship with a Beatle I would have insisted that i went to the studio and everywhere else with them - Can you imagine how fascinating it would have been to have seen that creative process? I really don't blame her at all for wanting to be alongside the man she loved.

Yikes, somehow I watched and listened to the end because I was fascinated by how the audience would respond. Sadly they clapped.
