Anyway, speaking of Yoko, here's one that didn't make Double Fantasy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJl06nxPub8

Yikes, somehow I watched and listened to the end because I was fascinated by how the audience would respond. Sadly they clapped.

Give me that over virtually everything else that did make it...at least it is interesting.

Partially.  The execution was somewhat bland, but I do think it was John's best set of songs post Imagine (which in your case I know says very little).

David

What do you find interesting about the Yoko/Zorn piece?

(I have no axe to grind - just a genuine enquiry.)

I'm a Wire (magazine) reader...  Wink Smiley Grin

I like improv music.  I might never ever want to hear it again, but it made me smile and I like the fact it confuses and upsets as much as it entertains.  To that end it has as much power as the most catchy middle eight around...

ps fwiw, I think Watching the Wheels is a great song.  Was that on DF?  Can't remember...

I'm not sure I entirely agree with this as I have a real soft spot for Walls & Bridges (not a popular view I know and possibly related to the age I was when I first heard it and the fact that Whatever Gets You Thru The Night was the first single I ever bought).

More to the point with DF though was that, if you had an open mind (which I did at the age of 16), some of Yoko's material was terrific. I remember flipping the single of Starting Over after having been a bit disappointed by the A side and my jaw completely dropping at the sound of Kiss Kiss Kiss. As an, at the time, lover of X Ray Spex and Lene Lovich, this was right in my wheelhouse. Every Man Has a Woman Who Loves Him may also be the best song on the album and may have been a huge hit had it been by someone more fashionable.

I was a teenager when DF came out, and I remember how odd "Just Like Starting Over" sounded when I first heard it on the radio.  It was such a throwback, both in style and production.  I liked it, as well as "Watching the Wheels," but it did not sound like anything else on mainstream rock radio at the time.

I'd quite like this but not at that money. Having said that, I have several problems with it. If it is a UK singles box, why package them in overseas sleeves (yes I know most Beatles UK singles only came in basic paper sleeves)? Why not go the whole hog and include the three additional singles from the 70s (two of which were UK top 20 hits, Yesterday & Back In The USSR) and even (God help us) Beatles Movie Medley? And why not include the two Threetles singles in their original configuration instead of combining them onto a single disc? A botch job and a missed opportunity to me.

Not worthy of a new thread but an interesting new piece with Paul about the split... https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/oct/10/it-was-john-who-wanted-a-divorce-mccartney-sets-the-record-straight-on-beatles-split

I don't buy Beatles stuff,  but I did purchase the recent 2LP reissue of John Lennon  :  Imagine. (white vinyl).  You get the poster and pig card.  It's pressed at Optimal and should be better than the black vinyl edition which came out just a few years ago.

I think that’s pretty common knowledge among anyone who’s read more than three Beatles biographies, but I guess he can only answer the questions he’s asked. For anyone who wants to hear more than stock stories 1-10, the Marc Maron WTF podcast is worth an investment, although that is mostly Wings-based.

Trailer for the Get Back docu series.  I'll probably end up watching a grainy copy over someone's shoulder on the dark web, but I do want to see it... https://twitter.com/thebeatles/status/1448274968576471042?fbclid=IwAR1iFIEqLcUk_HNUdTtitIewqR3vfHMiLs6XPLGO4eUXiDbVICx6Y7a7zQc
