What a delight to hear that set of tunes from Smiddyburn performed by RT & Swarb. I remember listening to that from outside the stage door of the Half Moon Putney at the 1981 Cropredy warm up - I arrived to late to get in!

Watching this tonight we were struck by the size of Swarb's bow. Is that a larger than normal one? I wonder why?

Watching this tonight we were struck by the size of Swarb's bow. Is that a larger than normal one? I wonder why?


Looks normal sized to me when he's playing. It looks a bit long during the chatter at the start because he's holding it differently.

I thought the same.  I vaguely remember someone telling me that the better violin player you are the more you can make use of a longer bow.  They're harder to control, but enable you to play longer notes with more sustain.  I think that's right anyway.

I hope that's the case. It did look as tho' Swarb had restricted movement of his right arm/shoulder.
