I'm not sure, but could this Sandy's version of the song that's on one of the 'Live at the BBC'-CD's, with some added (2013) instrumentation by messrs Donahue, Donaldson and Conway, and Sandy's own (original) guitar cut out? I think the acoustic solo version on the mentioned CD says it all. Was it really necessary to make it into a phony Fotheringay song? And if I am wrong and the vocal track was recorded for the second Fotheringay album, why was it not on the 'Fotheringay 2' CD? -- Hans Valk |

The Facebook advert says "This never before released recording of, Bruton Town, a traditional folk song, featuring the angelic voice of Sandy with new additions from Jerry Donahue, Pat Donaldson and Gerry Conway. A 1 track release from Premier Records." No other information although you can listen to a 60 seconds sample. Interesting.

I did some research and saw that there was a version included on the big boxset (which I don't have), but from your description I take it that this is another version? I agree with you that it doesn't sound bad. This 'band' version has a certain 'haunting' quality to it. Fotheringay was never short of it. The doubt lies in your last question: Why now? The recording on the BBC-cd is complete in itself. Just Sandy and her guitar. It's perfect in all it's simplicity. Why meddle with it? -- Hans Valk |

Correct. No part of this was recorded in the 1970 sessions, so it's a bit of a fake. But it's very pleasant. And it'll make a few bob, I suppose. |

I don't normally go for these re-re-re-re-released cds or tracks, however I really liked this clip of the song. So I will be puchasing this. If Jerry is involved, it's going to be well produced.

It seems to be a new outfit, based in LA and London, with Jerry D on board as "executive producer and creative director". 'Bruton Town' is a taster for the US release of Fotheringay 2 next year: 'In association with Jerry Donahue, Pat Donalson [ sic], Gerry Conway and the estate of Sandy Denny and Trevor Lucas, "Fotheringay II" will be released in Feb 2014 by Premier Records.
