It seems like The Chair are spending the summer at festivals.

Don't delay! Please book them!

I think there'll probably be enough chairs there already...  Wink

How about a good old Stax/soul revue set?

Cropredy 2018

« Reply #124 on: January 09, 2014, 01:31:57 PM »

It is interesting to note that over the past 5 years there have only been two "folk" headliners out of 10 across the Thursday and Friday nights - Thommo on 09 and bellowhead in '10, otherwise it has been squarely "classic" older artists so: Cooper, 10CC, Squeeze, UB40, Seasick, Quo and Winwood.

Is this pattern likely to change at all in 2014, we already have Aussie PF which fits the recent trend but a bit of folk headlining would make a change wouldn't it.

I think you've almost answered the question yourself , not many folk acts will get the same audience reaction as Alice, Quo , Squeeze etc. I know which I'd sooner see.

Someone on Facebook has mentioned a rumour about the Sensational Space Shifters. I'd be happy with that Cheesy

These would;

Capercaillie.
Frank Turner and the sleeping souls.
Runrig.
Imagined Village.

All big stage acts who would folk rock the joint. None of these have ever played Cropredy to my recollection. Saw F Turner & TSS at the Eden sessions , simply brilliant.

Steeleye havent played since 2006 and with the new material would go down a storm.
If FC are the best Folk/Rockers then The Oysters are still the best Rock/Folk act in my opinion. They havent played since 2004 and have a new CD to promote.
I really enjoy Bellowhead too and think they are due a reprise, 2012 probably to recent though.

Any of them would do if we cant get Subway To Sally or Faun to cross the channel.

I'd second any of those (other than Frank Turner who I've never heard of).

Frank Turner is HUGE - plays sell-out arena gigs etc. He's like a sort of younger, English Springsteen. But more significantly he recently won a celebrity edition of Mastermind.

And he's an Old Etonian, but we won't hold that against him will we?

No we won't, but some of us will hold his cretinous rightwing comments against him, no matter how much he tried to row back from them afterwards.

I've heard there's at least two new ones, and that either or both of them are up for it.

Oh, that's ok then - just so long as they aren't some sort of tribute band stretching out the franchise......

Well said that man.

To me its the music thats important, and there is often enough cretinous left wing and middle of the road comments around to swamp out cretinous rightwing comments.

Just spent a few minutes looking up what it was all about.  None the wiser on his politics or his music to be honest, though getting death threats as alledged is pretty extream for a country that welcomes free speech.
