nice McTell I'm wearin!

« Reply #300 on: February 27, 2015, 07:56:18 PM »

I have recently found an old cassette tape, recorded from a radio 4 programme a few years back. It starts with Martin Driver talking about the band and the Cropredy festival. I have listened to it again today, the band members talk about their love of the festival, its ambience and the music. It also features David Hughes telling the tale of a fan who had died and wished to attend one more festival, so his ashes were put on the stage only to be 'mislaid'. The end of the radio programme talks about Chris and Dave Pegg's marriage split and leaves the cliffhanger of 'will there be another Cropredy?' The fan who appeared on 'Mastermind' as his specialist subject chats away and much more.

Does anyone else remember hearing this years ago? There maybe a few who would like to hear this, we may have to ask a 'teccy' to help unless it is available still online somewhere?  Tiara

I think  I remember this. I didn't tape it, but did tape similar stuff like the McTell narrated History of English Folk Rock and the Sandy Denny Documentary. Both Radio 2 (I still run tapes in my trusty Nakamichi). If it's not too late, I can give a home to the tape.

It's not too late, its sitting here gathering dust and would love someone to have it, send me an IM and it shall be yours...  Wink

From Maart's Facebook feed: (there is a poster too but I can't resize it on my phone at work)

Next month I'll be playing my first solo gig for 35 years! The last one was in Lerwick in Shetland in 1980. Since then I've travelled the world and played to a LOT of people, with many great artists, but always as a sideman all this time. When I was a teenager in Middleton, I used to go to the Ring O'Bells Folk Club, which was run by me old chum Martin Gittins, and I guess it's where I did my apprenticeship.
Martin has now asked me to play a solo gig, and I thought, "Yes, why not? It's probably time..."
So I've decided that I shall play the first half acoustic, then the second half electric, with the aid of a laptop. It's a small but charming venue, limited to just 80 tickets, so if you fancy it, best get in quick.
8pm, Monday 23rd March, 2015 at The Eagle Inn, 19 Collier Street, Greengate, Salford, M3 7DW
Tickets are £6.50, available from Martin Gittins, either at martingzzz@hotmail.co.uk or on 07760 430 577

A couple of bits of Fairport on Vintage TV last night, apparently. First piece starts about 12.20 in.

Nice version of Ledge!  Harmonies and fiddle solo are terrific.

Great clips. Ditto Jules' comment on Ledge. Thought Myths and Heroes sounded brilliant too. Tight sound and Simon was clearly enjoying himself.

The radio station I'm involved with has a weekly chart, based on airplay of the previous week.  There are no playlists, everyone plays what they want within certain quotas.  Look who's at #12.  Smiley

He's either strapped, severing all ties with anything Fairport...or both.   Sad
