Every now and then you find yourself bowled over by something that had passed you by ages ago .For example. ---- I have just been stunned by the utter brilliance of "Eastern Rain" from "What we Did on our Holidays " .
I'm astounded .Its a shockingly good track and I've only just realised it . .
Eastern Rain??? I know that record by heart, but had long since forgotten what the tracks are actually called! It was only a couple of years ago I identified Book Song... but then it's in that category of record that I always play through, it's a whole not a collection of tracks (apart from MOTL of course)

A couple of intriguing Tweets from one @JohnWilson14 this morning... "Richard Thompson once described to me exact location of big tree he sang about in Meet Me On The Ledge. If I imagined the right tree then..." "..the Ledge has broken off" [Photo over 400 days old. Removed by Admin.]

You beat me to it, Al ...today's Google doodle celebrates the 215th anniversary of the birth of palaeontologist Mary Anning (The Fossil Hunter as commemorated in song by Chris Leslie)

The Fossil Hunter is a bit of a Marmite song in the FC catalogue. I quite like it, but it breaks the 6 minute mark and could comfortably be shortened by about 2 minutes and not lose a lot. Peggy plays particularly fine bass on it, though...

I'm not going to repeat them here because I'm not even sure they were meant to be made in public (I do wonder sometimes if some people realise how Facebook works) but there's some pretty gritty comments from Swarb about the current band on his Facebook thread... don't think he'll be at Cropredy any time soon, sadly...

I just attempted to access Swarb's Facebook page only to find I could no longer get in, so it seems I may have been blocked. The only thing I can think of that may have upset Swarb is the fact that my name is one of those shown at the back of the"Fairport by Fairport" book. Surely he hasn't scoured the book un-friending all those listed has he? I'd be interested to see if this has happened to anyone else.

I think I saw something about that in this week's Melody Maker - "Non founder member still narked at band he left thirty years ago" was the headline, IIRC.

Not very nice about the "two old boys who run it". A real shame. He was for a very long time a personal hero.

As a non-FBer, I can't see it, but something clearly went south in the Swarb and Peggy relationship some time ago. They were very close once, and you can't help but feel that it's all a big, big shame.
