I'm not going to repeat them here because I'm not even sure they were meant to be made in public (I do wonder sometimes if some people realise how Facebook works) but there's some pretty gritty comments from Swarb about the current band on his Facebook thread... don't think he'll be at Cropredy any time soon, sadly...  I just attempted to access Swarb's Facebook page only to find I could no longer get in, so it seems I may have been blocked. The only thing I can think of that may have upset Swarb is the fact that my name is one of those shown at the back of the"Fairport by Fairport" book. Surely he hasn't scoured the book un-friending all those listed has he? I'd be interested to see if this has happened to anyone else. I was blocked some time ago as well. It must have been because of comments about the Fairport by Fairport book (which I never actually bought) and the comments from Swarb towards the current band. Very disappointed at the time that one of my favorites had taken that action for speaking my mind, just as he does, but I have moved on. I don't think anything I said could be construed as disparaging towards anyone involved but obviously he felt otherwise.  |

Perusing the copious notes included with King Crimson's "Larks Tongues" box set, I spotted the following:
1st Jan 1972; from a piece by Ray Telford in "Sounds":
'Bill Bruford cites Fairport Convention, Pete Townshend and maybe King Crimson as "laying down some kind of permanent roots for contemporary British music"'.
BB was still a member of Yes at that time. Yes & KC had played on the same bill at the Van Dyke Club in Plymouth (13/5/69) - a benefit gig for FC following the crash.

Had a bit of a surprise yesterday: Working, as I do, in a Care Home for elderly people (mostly in their 80's and 90's) I'm used to the kind of publications that the residents or their families bring in - The likes of 'Woman's Own', 'Woman's Realm', 'Saga' and the depressingly ubiquitous 'Daily Mail'. So seeing one very venerable lady reading a copy of the equally ancient and chintzy 'People's friend' was no surprise - what was surprising was that it was open at a full page article about Fairport Convention  |

I am currently wading my way through the Paul McCartney Complete Recording Sessions 1969 - 2013 book and discovered the following interesting tidbit which I did not know.
There is a short section about the making of Mike McGear's McGear album in 1974 (a wonderful record which I am still desperate to find a reasonably priced CD copy of). Gerry Conway plays drums on the album and says in a short, new interview specially conducted for the book that after the recording he was invited by Paul McCartney to join Wings (Denny Seiwell having recently departed) but he had to decline because he was already committed to a Cat Stevens tour.
Gerry should of course be celebrated for many things but I would rank his presence on The Man Who Found God On the Moon very highly amongst them.

My Mum did ring me to tell me Fc / Cropredy featured in the Peoples Friend - that's been going longer than FC..............
She did cut it out to keep for me - but may have mislaid it.
She said it all seems "very nice dear"....................
