Well, for those of us who are interested, 2000 copies did not sound like a lot and there was a bit of a clamour to get one . But 12 hours later it is still available.  It just goes to show, though I am not entirely sure what it just goes to show. |

Well, for comparison, Merry Hell put out a couple of these limited type releases over the last year, I think in similar numbers, Maybe slightly less. They went on sale at midnight and sold out within minutes so I understand the fear. Fairport are a band with a worldwide, albeit modest following but you would anticipate that if they can sell 20000ish tickets for Cropredy they should be able to sell 2000 CDs. It would be interesting to know how many CDs they sold during last year's Wintour as a comparison. |

It may be that familiarity is a big issue here bit listening to the samples it does feel that the old songs (Walkawhile / Journeymans Grace / Dr of Physick ...) do just sound more "immediate" somehow. I can't think of a better word than that, there is still an energy in those songs which the band can tap into when they want which lacks in the newer tracks. DW |

This only goes to reinforce my long held conviction (as evidenced by the wholesale emptying of the field on Sat night during my last few visits to Cropredy) that vast numbers of the Cropredy crowd are largely uninterested in Fairport. |

Folk is a funny old thing - often quite largely 'left leaning' musicians with an often somewhat conservative (small c, but...) audience. I reckon that's certainly true of the Cropredy crowd. |

I enjoyed them at Skeggy but then they were so ignorant after. They came into the sky bar and made a horrible din all through The Men They Couldnt Hang. You would think fellow musicians would know better. |

Both Oysterband and the Levellers have played at Cropredy repeatedly with a similarly strident and assertively stated political stance.. Hasn't Billy Bragg also appeared. I'm sure there are others. Actually I would argue that from the many MH gigs I have attended and the content of the albums, they are far more about community than anything specifically party political (though they are, individually, unquestionably left leaning). |
