Not really Fairport related other than to say that Fairport were well ahead of the game here in having no original members by late '71 (for 4 or 5 years anyway)!

That's right ... and yet most of us would regard Nine as a classic Fairport album (I've always thought some of Side 2 is a bit dodgy but still ...)  .

Just in case anyone would like to share a taxi from Banbury to the Brase on Wednesday for the TradArr gig..
I'm not looking forward to trying to park in the village.
If anyone has suggestions about parking/ sharing driving I'd be grateful.

We've done it in the opposite direction 4 years ago and it was very reasonable. Only about a fiver.

I've asked this question on Fairporters as well..do we know if Ric is really a Deadhead (Andy's got a very nice pic of him in his Deadhead attire) or is his appearance in a Dead shirt of a similar ilk to the Kardashian family wearing Crass tees?  I've certainly never heard him mentioning the band before...

I couldn't tell you exactly where, but I remember him years ago saying that he got very much into the Dead as a young man. My ears prick up at such things, as I've been a major lover of GD since I was in my teens.

My guess is he genuinely is. I have certainly heard him mention his love of other San Francisco area bands of the era and at the warm up he was talking about It's A Beautiful Day as a favourite, prompted by the recent passing of one of their members. I can see how the cosmic jazz elements of the Dead's sound would be right in Ric's wheelhouse.

I think I'll go and play some Dead now on this sunny day. Maybe From The Mars Hotel.

Probably my favourite album of theirs, although I freely admit I haven't played any of their albums for 10+ years.

"Burgers", by Hot Tuna, though gets played regularly.

It could just be an amateur run but I've got a feeling I've seen the graphic before.  Can't place it though.

It looks like a Roger Dean Yes/Osibisa design to me.

I find it familiar also, too.

Badge machines are quite cheap and graphics easy to find online. Not saying this a fake though. I know someone who made a lot for school fetes and the like.

Praise Be. Maybe one of the band is a fan....

When did it first appear for Fairport?  "Nine" I think?

Yes, although it hasn't always been used since - "Rising For The Moon" & "Bonny Bunch of Roses" didn't, although they're possibly the only exceptions of the mainstream releases. Some compilations don't, EG "The Classic Collection".

Funnily enough my copies use the Kloster Xmas Special font for the band's name, but google shows earlier versions without, so some albums have been retconned.
