Also agreed on all counts. I have the same love/hate with the Free Reed sets but minor gripes aside it is mostly love. The Hutchings set was maybe the worst in terms of sequencing and Cropredy Chronicles the worst for typeface font and color but so many wonderful photos and little side notes in all of them that I cherish. Also to be fair, boxsets looked different 20 + years ago. I wonder if we’ve had a boxset thread here before…not regarding the music, but purely on the design, sequencing, bonus goodies, etc?

Re:box sets. I think that the Jethro Tull 40 yr box sets are the gold standard in terms of quality, layout and information. As others have said, the Free Reed sets are more akin to bootlegs, and I’m not a huge fan of the harem-scarem approach to sequencing. Still enjoy them, though!

I've not seen them in the flesh, but I've seen YouTube videos ahowing those sets in full, and they do look outstanding. Jules

So, a couple of weeks before we usually get the first acts for Cropredy - any ideas yet?
I suggest Trevor Horn is a given but anyone else?

F(A)C, FC and Digance. Beyond that, it's all (normally mostly totally unrealistic) expectation, isn't it?

I don't know, but since Calan have just announced they are breaking up, I'd love to see them one more time on that stage. I'd also love to see the Peatbog Faeries and/or Blackbeard's Tea Party appearing again. Or indeed, in honour of their recent triumph in the UK Tree of the Year competition, maybe Skippinish: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/oct/29/scotlands-ancient-skipinnish-oak-wins-uk-tree-of-the-year

Another live CD just released "Live 1970" so it's the Full House line up , double CD came out 25th October on Homespun label
Recordings taken from Fillmore East, New York, NYC June 10th 1970 WNEW-FM, Fillmore East, New York, NYC June 12th 1970 WNEW-FM, Old Pool Farm, Schwenksville, PA Philadelphia Folk Festival 29th August 1970 Syndicated Radio
Track listing shows 2 x Tam Lin's , but no Matty Groves which must be unusual omission for a live Fairport CD, especially a double

The Philly Folk at least has been released before, hasn't it? What's the quality like?

Couldn't make it myself this time (intend to rectify this in February), but did anyone go and see FC on their just-finished Autumn tour ?
If so, what was it like, how were the guys, etc. ?
Sometimes I get a little concerned about how out of 5000 or so members on a FC fan forum, how few mention actually going to watch FC in concert...

I think a few people posted about it in Recent Gigs, all positive if my memory serves me correctly. Haven't made it ourselves this time.

There's only about 50 (max) regular posters though, isn't there - and several of them/us are lapsed viewers of the current band, so...?

My last Fairport gig was in 2022 at the Platform in Morecambe where I've seen them on two other occasions. The Settle gig on the current tour was, I think, their only date in and around the NW of England which unsurprisingly sold out. I'm sure they could have filled another venue up here in places like Morecambe or Kendal but maybe there wasn't a venue available around the start of the tour when they had booked to play Settle. Hopefully they'll be back at some point in the next year or two. Steeleye Span played in Lancaster this year so I can't complain too much.

Thanks for the responses so far. Yes, there have been a couple of posts about the tour I've missed in "Recent Gigs". Reassuring to know they're currently on good form.

We’d see them if factors worked together, such as if it coincided with a convenient time to have Annual Leave and/or they were far enough north, but as they get older they are understandably staying a bit further south. Always look out for the possibility, though, definitely not lapsed.
