Anyone here been to Under the Bridge, the London venue, before? "UTB is a General Admission standing venue. However, there are 7 booth areas at the back around the room and 20 bar stools around the edge of the dance floor. We advise that if you want a seat to arrive early when the doors open." http://underthebridge.co.uk/faq/Considering that most of the audience will be on the wrong side of 50 (including yours truly), this doesn't sound too promising.  So what it means is, like so many London venues, if you are disabled - tough, so have to rely on the usual suspects  |

I suspect wheelchairs are catered for, otherwise you do what anyone else does and turn up early (and are probably prioritised).

Not every disabled person uses a wheelchair (a common myth!), my wife who has a blue badge does not, but because of severe back pain and knee problems, is unable to stand for more than 10 minutes at a time, and I would find it hard to stand for more than half an hour without sitting down. These venues really haven't thought it out - with the exception of the Southbank and the Barbican which are excellent! |

Are you going to ban venues like the Borderline in London because its accessed by stairs?
As long as there are venues of all types, and where seated, available to all, isn't that better? Why would someone want to access a standing venue when they can't stand?
Abd before you say that they're only touring ince, there's another tour in December

So, are you suggesting all venues be made seated? Realistically, I mean.
And I think you need to check with the London venue that started this (sub-) thread, as I reckon that if you contact them in advance, they are likely to be fully accessible.....

My wife got in touch with the London Venue as soon as the gig was anounced, and she definitely cannot do that one. Shame but upside is more money for our holiday |

I would agree with you that modern venues like that one really ought to be able to be used by the vast majority if those with disability.
My reference earlier was to amends that are really not possible architechurally or cost more than the venue is worth. Would we want them to stay open as is or close for good?

Just contact them well in advance and explain.
Find out who's in charge of the venue and send them a polite eMail.
Viv and I do tend to go to gigs that are expecting a younger crowd and Viv can't stand for ages. Generally venues help to just the right degree.

Don't all turn up because I want to get in, bit it seems that Jerry Donahue and the Folk Ensemble (sic) are playing at The Swan & Royal in Clitheroe tonight, with a very familiar looking cast* Free gig, landlord reckons arriving post 730 will be the right sort of time, should be good.
