This remarkable young lady was support act for Rufus Wainwright last night..this was a song she wrote for her older sister. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdVzM6QfNxsYou may have seen her on The Piano, C4…I hadn’t, but found her immediately engaging and her voice stunning.

I know her from The Piano, but I hadn't realised from that that she has been making music and putting it out there for so long already.

Really enjoyable new interview with Clive Gregson, which includes some nice references to RT and Fairport Convention. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qgn3ixCv5iI

Thanks for sharing Mike-Very interesting, true and alarming in general. I don’t stream, but do purchase albums or songs digitally more than I used to. I still buy physical copy as much as possible but the death of the record stores means spending more than a straight up download. As to his points about the way music is recorded together with how we hear and respond to music these days he is spot on. I do think as long as there are people recording on analog, striking the occasional bum note or singing a flat note that the technology will never truly take over but its tough for sure.
I was watching an episode of McDonald & Dodds that had an interesting scene- a challenge between a professor of blues history pitted against a student claiming AI could produce a recording of Robert Johnson. The student played 3 versions, one the real, two AI. The professor only had to hear 10 seconds of each to proclaim which one was real…because AI neglected to include the sound of a train whistle in the distance heard during the real recording. Yes it was cliched, but it made a nice point about imperfections really making things more interesting. Long may it be so

Here's another of Rick's videos which tells a story of what it was like in the olden days, including the making of Steely Dan's Rikki Don't Lose That Number and Aja. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-fEKf3Av3c

Local (to me) duo Honey and The Bear cover WKWTTG. https://youtu.be/h-ZGDjpIXs4 Has an air of Eddi Reader about it, I think.

I have very little understanding of why people would cover a song like that. What can you possibly hope to achieve? This is (I think) better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXOh3_WGNFU

Honey and the bear are excellent (and nice guys too) Good spot Mr K Lucy once taught me to play Noah and The Whale's Five Years' Time on the ukulele live on radio. So she's astonishingly patient, if nothing else.

First saw them play at the Great British Folk Festival at Butlins when thy won the introducing stage. Seen them a few times since and they are indeed very good. I like this cover.
