We're going for a family day out at Hitchin Lavender tomorrow and looking on the map, I note that we'll be driving directly past The Angel on the A120. I feel oddly excited about that. Aren't you supposed to be able to see traces of where it was rebuilt?

Also, a quick Google leads to a story from the Telegraph's property section from when The Angel was last sold in 2012. Simon is quoted as saying that the furniture that saved Swarb's life was bought ahead of a session he was due to play with Paul Simon, but after the crash the session was cancelled and "...Swarb was left with a lot of furniture he couldn’t afford which was no more than firewood".

I've never heard the Paul Simon story before, I'm sure I'd read that Swarb bought all the furniture after FC were paid off from their recording contract.

I used to live nearby until 2008. You can see signs of re-building in the brickwork.

The wrought iron holder for the pub sign was also still fixed to the wall then. Don't know whether the new owners have kept it.

The sign-holder is still there. There's also a posh little name plaque by the door saying "The Angel, Little Hadham".
