I don't think I can bear to read that. Perversely, I'm really looking forward to it. I've long known he was an utter [insert swear word of choice]. In fact I've witnessed him behaving disgracefully (and arguably, abusively) outside Folkestone Lees Cliff Hall before a gig in the late 80's. And I adore a vast amount of his music, and enjoyed a great deal of his gigs right up to that very challenging to watch Cropredy slot. So I'm fully prepared for "very complex and flawed character makes very beautiful music" content.

I was talking on the phone to a mate about this very subject just an hour ago, under the umbrella theme of how much can one or should one separate the art from the artist. Important to remember that John could also be sensitive and loving. Complex is indeed the word. Jules

I've just started reading the Phil Lynott biog by the same author. Until now I didn't realise how personal his lyrics were, especially the early ones. He really had a tough upbringing, with two absent parents.
On the strength of this book, I might reconsider reading the John Martyn one.

Is there anything about Dr Strangely Strange in the Lynott book?

Is there anything about Dr Strangely Strange in the Lynott book? There are a few quotes from Tim Booth about Phil, and it covers the Dublin folk/poetry scene around 1969 including Dr Strangely Strange

Incidentally, here is a kind of a tribute to Phil song that Tim Booth wrote and which was on the third (and to date, final) Dr SS studio album (from '97) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In2K-JoMrFU
