A polling day, a polling day and the first one of the year!

I keep thinking that we should have some sort of poll to mark the anniversary but we have done the obvious "best album", "best song" stuff to death so I have come up with the following. Over the next week or so, I shall take nominations in the following categories and organise them, using my entirely subjective judgement, into some sort of poll.

Favourite Song 1967 - 1979
Favourite Song 1985 - 1996
Favourite Song 1997 - 2017
Favourite Song Written by a Non Band Member
Favourite Instrumental
Favourite Album Sleeve
Least Favourite Album Sleeve
Least Favourite Song

And just for fun and to stimulate some conversation, nominate your favourite Fairport Cropredy moment, with or without guests. This will not form part of the vote.

I will set up nomination threads shortly.

Just to clarify, I get the impression that some people think that nominations of favourite songs within the eras have to be band originals. Not so.

Covers, trad songs and songs from outside the band are all perfectly permissable in these categories. There may be some overlap with other categories but that is fine too.

Are you looking for 'seconds' for nominated songs at this point too?  Or just a list of different favourites?

If you leave the polls going long enough you'll get everything nominated Undecided Might be tricky to get agreeable shortlists?

Yes, I will be looking for seconds.

Try not to take this too seriously. See my opening statement. I said I would leave the nomination period open for about a week, mostly because I was expecting to be unavailable to do anything with it during that time anyway. I also said that I would organise polls based on the nominations but using my own entirely subjective judgement. Don't go expecting democracy. I have learned from the politics of the last 12 months and will be dealing exclusively in alternative facts unless my ties to the Russians are definitively proven. And hell, it is me that is organising the thing after all!  Wink

I promise you Dave, whatever the outcome of the polls, The Wounded Whale will be declared the winner. Oops, did I say that out loud?

Da, comrade.  But just blame it on CIA interference and you'll be fine.

It makes life much easier if the polls are rigged from the start. We know where we stand. But it could all be fake news.

I think it was Gil Scott-Heron who said you should only believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. Wise words.

I deny everything about the Duck. It has been taken out of context. It was in fact Neil Innes but he was kneeling down so the rest of him does not show up in the picture!

I have just noticed the maritime theme to your instructions. Is this code or are you just a salty old sea dog?

Subject to having the IT facilities to do so (i.e. not being restricted to a tablet as currently), I will be locking the nominations threads this evening and setting up the voting threads over the weekend.
