Just got back to the hotel from seeing the Decemberists at the Hammersmith Apollo, and I’m buzzing! Fantastic set list, with personal highlights including Engine Driver, a barnstorming Rox in the box/Blackleg miner/ raggle taggle gypsy medley, and a very trippy and sonic Severed. Colin Meloy was in fine form and voice, and the icing on the cake was the Mariners Revenge Song (complete with giant inflatable whale). I can’t think of any other current band who can bring so many shades of light and dark to a live show, and play so many different styles of music whilst still retaining their own unique core. Long may they continue!

Keith Christmas at Wurzlebush Folk Club, Rugby, Tuesday 6th Nov.
I must admit that I last saw Keith in 1973 , when he was the archetypal hippy and fresh from a great success on Whistle Test.
In the following years he describes himself as a journeyman and to all intents and purposes left music behind.
Then 2 years ago, aged 70, the muse returned and he found himself writing very , very good songs in a very different, blues inspired style that became his last album, 'Crazy Dancing Days,'.On Tuesday he played that album almost in its entirety and then new songs, some more lyrical and reflective, from his upcoming album.
His remarkable guitar skills , that voice, are still there plus a fire and zeal, usually seen in much younger people, to get his new stuff out there.
Just a stunning night by a consummate performer.
Sadly only 25 of us there when Julie Felix had pulled a 100 the previous week!

Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart at Gloucester Guildhall last night; pretty much the same set as last time I saw them, but the acoustics are so much better than at The Fleece in Bristol. And I could have a few beers and bounce around.Most enjoyable.

Struggled against incipient illness, railway engineering works, closed car parks and the worst driving conditions I have ever experienced to get to London on Saturday for Bruce Cockburn's show at St Pancras church.
Very glad I made it and that my cold did not materialize until yesterday. Great acoustic show from Bruce in an unusual setting. His guitar playing is extraordinary. Right up there with RT in my book.
I wish Bruce would come over with a band but I guess the economics of that are prohibitive these days. I saw some great shows when he used to wrestle his Flying V back in the day.

I had a great time down the road from you with the Aussie Pink Floyd. We got quite a selection of Floyd stuff - mainly from between DSOTM and The Wall - just one from the post-Roger Waters period - Sorrow - but a few earlier ones too - Obscured By Clouds, Fat Old Sun, See Emily Play and One of These Days.
