I think it will be Bonnie Raitt, she is touring Europe at the right time, would hit the Fairport WOW factor and fits the Cropredy bill pretty well.

The problem with musicians picking the bands is that they go for technique and talent. They like clever. At 11pm on a festival field I want to be overwhelmed with action and rhythm. Saxon belting out Wheels of Steel, Alice doing Poison, etc .
Please let it be someone with passion and power.

Passion and Power v Technique and Talent....bunnnnnnnndle Just to be contrary (moi?), can I put a vote in for Passion and Talent, please? Power and technique leave you with Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani. And, let's face it, the world's not around long enough to have to deal with that kind of nonsense....

( as long as its not the X Factor type of passion /caterwauling) I've always thought of that as an exact example of placing technique over feeling (why sing one note when you can literally sing six). Awesome technique, but entirely without any purpose whatsoever beyond showing us your supreme talent (so what?), and therefore without any merit at all (same as with the Metal gods above).

What everyone appears to want is a technically proficient good ole sing along to end the night! (We had that last year with Trevor Horn, problem was , he didn't end the night!)

It was Whitney Houston who started that rubbish wasn't it? Or popularised it, anyhow. Horrible.

Horses for courses, ending the night singing Tonight We Fly was one of the all time Cropredy highlights for me.

I saw the Dead in London in 1990, and it was just unbelievable, and entirely unlike any other live experience I've ever had. Can't see them playing Cropredy, though: would it be likely that they've be given two sets and a slot of about four hours in total?

I've had this hunch since we saw them in December that the Thursday headliner is Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters, I've now convinced myself that this is the case. My 'logic' is as follows.
They would've played last year, but it wouldn't have been right to detract from Fairport's 50th. There is a connection to Cropredy as we know. They are headlining Bearded Theory (going to that and very happy they are) BT must have pushed he boat out to get them, so I think they've got a clause that prevents an announcement. This week BT announce 'almost sold out' The day after Cropredy announce 'WoW - very soon'
When you eliminate the impossible and all that.....
