Yes thank you.
Although he was ill, he played with the band on a rocking version of one of their best-loved songs, Matty Groves. At the end, he told Fairport’s fans: “You’re the best friends I’ve ever known.”
RIP Maart, friend

Reference to playing the fiddle in that Telegraph obit? I'm not sure I ever saw him playing that instrument?

The photo of Maart playing fiddle (photographer Brian Marks) was taken at Cropredy in 2006 and has appeared on his Wiki page for some time. It was taken as Swarb's Lazarus set up. Swarb's mobility was very limited and Maart plugged his fiddle in for the final sound check, lasting but a few seconds, as I recall. I do also remember seeing Maart play fiddle with Ric, Simon and Peggy, I think. Bridge Over the River Ash? Cannot remember where or when...

Ric on keyboards! This Birmingham town hall gig from 1990. I love Maarts shirt! And Peggy's ponytail! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZceek4FH84

He played fiddle on 'The Rose Hip' a few times as well. I remember Ric saying how pleased he was that Maart had learnt the instrument, because it enabled them to play that song live.

Ric is a pretty good keyboard player too. The 80's-90's era actually had three with Maart and DM. On the Cropredy 2001 DVD Chris Leslie paid Maart a great compliment about his musical chops, saying the one thing he hadn't quite mastered yet was the fiddle and that he was trying to keep one away from him! Said with a cheeky grin on his face. I hadn't realized he played on The Rose Hip live. That is a particular favorite of mine.

I loved what Maart brought to Fairport , particularly his humour and his Les Paul goldtop , all sadly missed

Yes, I agree with the praise for the album and am pleased to have an original "New Day Records" copy of it. But I have never heard his other two solo albums. Would anyone care to say how they compare with each other please?

There are actually 3, Maart, Chilli Morning and Serving Suggestion. There is also an album with Lisa Starnini, Two Bays - Due Baie. They are all very listenable. Maart is somewhat eclectic as a first album. OX15 is probably the most ambitious. Serving Suggestion is in a similar vein Chilli Morning is less collaborative "one man band" recording. Two Bays is excellent.
