I loved them!  

Laughed like a drain, the Sons' enjoyment was infectious and I caught it. Can't wait to see them again - would happily travel to do it too! Crowd boating at the end was inspired and wonderful. I wondered why there were folk around wearing brightly coloured knitted tank tops! I don't think they'll ever come back in fashion, but since when has a crowd of folkies been fashionable? Lovely to see Maart joining in with a huge smile on his face too.

Marmite maybe (I love Marmite) - but the world could do with more of their good-humoured happiness.

I thought I'd sample a few songs and then pop to see Leatherat at the Brasenose but I ended up staying til the end of their set. Loved the Ornithology song.

If we had a best of Festival poll they would get my top marks.

The heavy rain in the driest of summers ,Metal Matty with Marrt , and the Cockwomble song will be the lasting memories of Cropredy 2018 for me.

Your set inspired Me into altering songs content.


My first attempt, and before ever reading about Mr Fish.

I.m sitting in the  rail station bog.
Got a packet full of laxitives.
On a tour of toilet blocks.
And every stop is neatly planned, to coincide with sewerage works.

Chorus.....

Crowd...

And each toilet looks the same to Me, the bog paper and graffiti ,

Bound up with too many boiled eggs.


Must stop or they may ban Me.
Lines including hemeroides exist , but not really fair to Mr fish.

I didn't know what to expect with this group. To be a novelty act you have to be extremely talented, or otherwise it just sounds lame.

I was blown away. They are extremely talented, and their rewrites were hilarious, a bit like the Barron Knights, but ruder. Sadly, the sound was not good in the first couple of songs, and I missed some words, but after that it improved. Spent the last song on my feet. JUMP, JUMP, JUMP, and I have a dodgy back.

The devil goes down to Georgia has always been one of my favourite songs, but they made it their own and took it to Barnsley. Missed a few words, so I am going to have to check out YouTube.

The lady in front of us was so impressed she bought a Lady in Greggs T-shirt.

Do you gig down south? If so, I am going to see you.

I see Scott has taken to describing TalkAWhile as GrumpAWhile on Facebook, presumably because of the mixed impact the act had on the people here. Thing is, Scott, TAW is not like FaceBook where people seek you out because they like you, the comments here are generated by people who were at Cropredy, from a wide range of musical backgrounds. It's inevitable that some will not be overwhelmed by BSoVD, whilst others will have been.

It's hardly fair on those who have praised BSoVD here to dub TAW "GrumpAWhile" on the basis that some people didn't do so.

Guess I’m a GrumpAWhile then. Liked the odd song (The Zipper made me smile/wince!) but overall it was puerile rubbish. Yes the musicianship was good but all they were doing was to squeeze so-called funny lyrics into existing tunes and, for me, it largely didn’t work. I also only like some comedians and not every comedian. Not every comedy act is funny to everyone but I don’t think I’m that much of a grump

There's a long folk-club tradition of comedy-folk.  I almost universally loathed all of it.  I'm also no fan of the current "cover-version in another musical style" genre (although I make an exception for that outstanding cover of Thunderstruck by Steve'n'seagulls!).  From what I hear and see, this lot appear to be a mixture of the two?  If I'd seen them I'm fairly sure I'd have been a Grumpawhile too.
