The poll has closed, the results are in and here are the top 8 (Who got over 50% of the winners vote) :

Fairport Convention  992
Afro Celt Sound System792
Brian Wilson760
The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican664
Le Vent Du Nord632
Kate Rusby576
Al Stewart536
Oysterband488

Another win for the home side, but the vote was much more spread out this year.

Stunning result for the Afro Celts, considering the deluge that accompanied their entire set - and the whole field being wrapped in umbrellas and other rain defences, making the stage pretty much invisible for many.

I think that may partly be the reason they scored so well - people remembered them for lifting their spirits during the sh**ty conditions. Fair play to them.

Makes you wonder though if they'd have stormed* the poll if the weather had been better.

*Pun not originally intended, but now is.

If Fairports set - again i say for me heard via Radio Oxford - was the best set of the weekend the rest must have been pretty slim pickings. BUT it was a helluva good final 3rd.

So I voted for 4 of the top 8....hmmm think that shows the wide diversity of the music on offer which, for me, makes a good festival  Smiley

I voted for all bar one of the top acts.  Not in that order, but that's democracy for you!

In truth not the best Fairport set of recent times either. But I think we all voted for the section with Maart which was outstanding.
For me the lows outdid the highs. Crushing disappointment with the Levellers equalled by the unexpected high of the Bar Stewards. However the best two performances I saw were at the Brasenose.

Merry Hell were simply outstanding, best act of the weekend by a mile. Also I went to watch Kaprekar's Constant who were very good indeed , but stayed for Zal Cleminson. These were not my sort of thing musically. But what a performance. Well delivered and very exciting. Everything the Levellers weren't.

hats off to Peter Richards. For me two of the top four performances were at the Brasenose.
