Prog Magazine has a 3 issues for £3 (followed by a quarterly - aka 2 issues - for £13.50 or something) offer all over Facebook. I can't see how this makes any business sense whatsoever, but I felt duty bound whilst there are still a few music mags left around to enjoy.

Desperate measures, methinks. Last hope of netting a wider readership. Jules

A Mott The Hoople/Ian Hunter 3CD set for £5 from a local supermarket. Split approx 50/50 twist MTH and IH solo.
(nothing from the Island years, but all the "hits"!)

Just had a subscription renewal notice from Uncut offering half price subs if you pay by 6 monthly standing order.

This is where I wonder how those 6 issues for £6 offers actually help them. The vast majority won't renew at a reasonable rate. Too many people are too used to buying heavily discounted mags. I can't imagine they'll last much longer...

On junodownload.com - a number of old releases from the Osmosys/Plant Life roster - including Dougie Maclean, Tannahill Weavers, Blowzabella, Alex Campbell, Celtech, etc etc - in mp3, WAV etc formats
Might go for the Blowzabella & Celtech downloads (but I've a backlog of 50s-60s Miles and Coltrane to listen to first!)

Apologies for double posting - but I've just spotted the Celtech album (their first) available as a free download on their bandcamp page!

Simon Emmerson (AfrCelts et al) has announced that his record label ECC is closing. Quite a few bargains to be had at eccrecords.co.uk - but be quick...

Thanks, Paul. I've picked up the last couple of Afro-Celt albums, and Jackie Oates's Lullabies (I don't have little kids any more, but I could listen to her singing the phone directory!).

Thanks for the information Paul. Some records there which are well under my radar but look intriguing. Have purchased 4 "wild cards" alongside more familiar Afro Celts and Imagined Village. Sad to see the label to close however.

Yes, it is sad to see it close. There's been some fine music released by ECC.

I must admit I have not heard of the ECC label. My other Afro-Celts and Imagined Village releases have been on Real World Even more surprised when I found out their office is next door to a pub I am familiar with on Poole Quay! Looking forward to hearing some new artists to me. The triple album compilations look to be an unbelievable bargain.

Does £8 for a new-looking LP count in these days of Vinyl Renaissance? Methinks so ... Anyway, it was the one album from Jackie McAuley's Poor-Mouth, "Gael Force". Mr McAuley was the guitarist for Van Morrison's Them and then formed the duo Trader Horne with Judy Dyble. Anyway, the LP in question sounds rather like Horslips meets Chris Rea ... definitely recommended if you like Celtic rock. Anyway, do patronise your local record shop if you are lucky enough to have one - the joy of discovery will always beat surfing the net

Re: Indie Record Stores
Totally agree , whilst HMV have their moments , we are lucky in Hull to have an indie "Wrecking Ball Music" directly opposite HMV , with a wide selection of new vinyl and secondhand , plus new books , in store signings ,a cafe, and a music venue upstairs with a bar .Proper gem of a place , great place to browse and buy , so if you unlucky enough to find yourself in Hull at a loose end .....
