Soft Machine.... Ambleside!
That looks good. Soft Machine are still worth hearing, I take it?

Standing gigs:
I've never liked them, and though I'm in fair to middling condition at 65, I find an evening on my feet rather taxing. Drinkers seem to find it easier, and I've been drink free for around 5 years now.

Just announced - August 2023 U.S. tour by The Swell Season (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova)!
No dates near me, so Mrs. J From A and I will have to cross the country for this rare opportunity. I hope it does not conflict with Peter Gabriel's contemplated U.S. summer tour (although it would be serendipitous if they showed up in the same place one or two days apart).

I thought about it for 5 mins (Good evening, St Helens!) but, no...I've seen them 3 times with John and twice in a smallish venue and don't think I ever need to see UB40 again so I'm passing...

This is the biggest concert in St Helens since Soap Aid. Never seen the Who so seriously considering it, depending on ticket prices. I'm assuming I won't be allowed in using my Saints season ticket.

Seen them with Pete, Roger, Keith and John, seen them with Pete, Roger and John, seen them with Pete and Roger, I think the last time was the Tommy tour in 2016, I think, and I would have liked to see them again but I'm not going to St Helens to pay £80+ to stand and more for a seat.

Pity John Lodge is not coming near Texas. I believe he resides in Florida, hence his extensive activity there. As an added incentive, the state is largely populated by old farts.

New announcements: Les Claypool / Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew Remain in Light - Moody Amphitheater, Austin, June 14, 2023! Robert Plant / Alison Krauss - Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, The Woodlands, April 26, 2023! Almost definitely doing the first one; would love to do the second but travel is a pain these days without reliable dog boarding service.

Statesiders...
I have seen Justin Hayward a few times but never John solo. He rarely tours in the UK these days - and when he does it's never anywhere near me. Last time I saw him live was with the Moodies, which was a fair few years ago now.

Just booked to see the mighty Sparks at the Bridgewater hall at the back end of May, Tickets disappearing visibly as I was looking. It could well be sold out by now

Sparks at ACL Live in July, just booked!
We saw the Edgar Wright documentary last Fall, and though it was over long, it definitely "sparked" our interest in seeing these guys live. Thrilled that they decided to come through our town and play our favorite venue.
Setlist.fm says they have played Austin only three times, 1982, 1983 (the peak of their U.S. popularity thanks to MTV and Jane Wiedlin) and 2013. I think it's now or never.

Not my kind of thing but good to see a free gig on in Morecambe at the Platform. As I said previously, the future of that venue is up in the air and it's interesting to see that various local political groups have latched on to it. We have a group of councillors who go under the name of the Morecambe Bay Independents and they are trying to find financial backers to help keep the place open. Now the Tories have jumped onto the bandwagon but accidentally sent an email detailing their plans to a Green Party councillor. And of course, it was the council who voted to close the venue in the first place. You couldn't make it up. Back on topic, there's a night of traditional and contemporary folk songs of Cumbria and Lancashire on at Lancaster Methodist Church this Saturday featuring Steve Wharton, Oliver Cross and Eleanor Servante.

A mixed bag for me over the next few months Turin Brakes - Cardiff Tramshed 11th March Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band - Borough Theatre, Abergavenny 14th April Lindisfarne - Grand Pavillion, Porthcawl 26th May (marking 20 years since I saw them on their farewell tour! ) Dave Gorman - New Theatre, Cardiff 8th June Maybe some more when I discover who's on and where, within striking distance.
