Thursday, Midge Ure at 3Ten Live (assuming I can still get a ticket).

I am thoroughly unfamiliar with Ultravox and Midge Ure's other musical contributions.

So what you're saying is that Vienna means nothing to you?

Jules

Grin I streamed Vienna yesterday and I swear I’d never heard it before.

It was quite a hit in Europe - no.2 in the UK charts for a month, and no.1 in various countries - but it looks like it was never released as a single in the US. Even the album only made it to no.164 in the Billboard 200 charts. So strange as it seems to us this side of the pond that you could have escaped it, maybe as an American it isn't all that strange.

I snagged my ticket and watched the video of Ultravox at Live Aid, so I'm ready to be introduced to the man, the legend, the one-and-only, Midge Ure, on a cool, rainy night in downtown Austin, Texas.

But to watch a live stream of Ashley Hutchings and Blair Dunlop tonight £18 is a bit steep for me.
Yes you can pay £12 or £30 but £18 is ticketed price.
Thoughts…….

You could buy a decent bottle of wine for that money and that would be gone in the course of an evening too.

Wine obviously costs £5.95…….😇🙄🤣

Having finished reading the biography by Glen Matlock at the weekend, I just had to revisit that clip. Happy days! Smiley

As did many other people at the time, apparently...

And re: Al Stewart, I'll be in line to get my tickets!

Maybe, maybe I'll go see Lucinda Williams tomorrow, mainly because her opener is Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs, late of Tom Petty/Heartbreakers and Fleetwood Mac.

But probably not. She's sold pretty well so she doesn't necessarily need me, and I'm a little gigged out. Professor Richard Dawkins at ACL Live last Saturday was a staid affair after Barry Manilow/Squeeze/Boy George/America/Midge Ure in rapid succession. I also want to see the Carole King musical "Beautiful" this month, so maybe Lucinda falls by the wayside.

That is such a puerile little name for a 74 year old to be trading under...

Each to their own, which is as it should be, of course, but personally I'd have made more of an effort to go and see Lucinda than anybody on that little list (including the increasingly odd Prof Dawkins).

When I bought my last Gretsch it had a dirty volume knob, which the dealer sorted out with a quick squirt of WD40.

My wayback machine tells me I saw Lucinda Williams open for Tom Petty in 1999. I remember the show but I don't remember her performance, at all, sad to say. (Not a reflection on her but rather on my fading memory.) I may need to do this. I don't have to decide until about 6:00 PM local time.
