"Swiss hurdy-gurdy wielding rock band" - now that's something you don't see every day!
Indeed. That's what sparked my curiosity! Glad to be able to say that they were excellent. The singer, Anna Murphy, played flute and keyboards as well as hurdy-gurdy (often all within the same song!) and I wondered whether the instruments would get swamped in all the rock bombast but the sound engineer did a terrific job and they came through perfectly.

From Iain Matthews on FB:
Taking a short break from all the MSC planning to play a few shows with my pal Andy Roberts. A mix of solo & Plainsong material. Gonna be fun and a nice distraction Books and box sets on sale. What more can you ask. December Thursday. 8th. Bulls Head. Barnes Saturday. 10th. Mary Cryans house concert. Hull Sunday. 11th. The Pidgeon Loft. Pontefract Monday. 12th. The Greys. Brighton
Thanks for this. Saw Iain in concert for the first time, last year, as part of the Matthews/Baartmans Conspiracy. It was an excellent show. He still sings like an angel. Hopefully, I'll be able to get tickets for the evening in Pontefract. Thanks Wayne. Just bought a ticket for the Brighton gig. Should be a great night!

I got quite excited when I saw the Waterboys are playing in Carlisle (not until next Autumn, mind). Then I looked at the ticket price...£47.75 + charges. Nah.

That's a sign of the times. The Waterboys have always been reasonably priced before. Jules

That's a sign of the times. The Waterboys have always been reasonably priced before. Jules Both the price, and my non-attendance...which will ultimately feed through to higher prices, I guess. Like most supposedly self-regulating markets in late-Capitalism, this one is very broken indeed...

If I was in Chester I'd have gone to Liverpool, but there's nothing near me, sadly. It's a great gig anyway...enjoy.

Excellent Eighties rock throwback Chez Kane, on Saturday, the Mary Wallopers - a band I'm aware of but not heard - the following Monday and Fontaines DC, the day after.

Ditto + DP@75 in Dudley tonight & Go Go Penguin in London tomorrow. Never heard of GGP, but they look intriguing.... I hope Peggy's bash is fun. Richard's not in the country is he - one last fling for the GPs?

Bonnie Raitt with Marc Cohn, tonight, Moody Theater at ACL Live!
Our patience will be rewarded tonight. Bonnie had to postpone her October show in San Antonio due to a cold (not Covid thankfully). We returned those tickets and bought obscenely expensive after-market tickets to tonight's Austin show, which sold out months ago. She's one of our musical heroes; I first saw her live in 1998, but Mrs. J From A saw her in the early days. We will always come back to Bonnie.

Saw her supporting James Taylor a few years ago, blew me away. She’d be great at Cropredy…
