Not a music gig, but I'm seeing Ed Byrne tomorrow night. Two nice things about it - 1. I'll be accompanied by both my sons, which rarely happens. 2. It's so local I could walk there in 10 minutes.
Ed was always consistently funny on Mock the Week. I should go and see him too. To be honest, I'm more inclined to go to a stand-up show than a music gig these days. Jules I'm finding smaller, more intimate gigs way more rewarding these days. It's been an amazing year with Pete Morton, Pit Head Poets, Jez Lowe and the Radio Ballads, Phil Beer, Steve Knightly, Steve Turner, Gigspanner with Raynor Winn, Gilmore Roberts and John Tamms all delivering fabulous evenings amongst others. There are still a few artists on my list (Thea Gilmore) that I would visit an arts centre sized venue to see where the sound is great and the connection with the artists is still intimate. Yet to try a stand up comedy evening.

Jules Well, it was achingly funny, even if a personal tragedy (the death of his younger brother last year) was the inspiration for most of the best material. I'm glad I decided to go.

Two gigs in December, which coincidentally share a common theme:
A. J. Croce, December 8, Paramount Theater. A. J. is the son of legend Jim Croce, and this tour is entitled "Croce Sings Croce." By all accounts, A. J. is a highly accomplished musician and somewhat of a doppelganger to his father.
Allman Family Revival, December 17, ACL Live. Devon Allman and Duane Betts will attempt to recreate the unique alchemy of the original Allman Brothers Band. I believe their set is heavy on Allman's classics, with a smattering of originals. I've seen both separately before, and they likewise bear uncanny resemblance to their fathers. Devon's voice is a carbon copy of Gregg's, and Duane's playing style is heavily influenced by Dickey's.
It ain't the real thing, but it's the next best.

On the fence on going to see Liz Phair Friday at ACL Live.
If I go, it will be part of my continuing quest to catch artists of the 80s and 90s who I missed the first time 'round (e.g., Duran Duran, Culture Club, Garbage, Noel Gallagher).

The first 3 at least are corking albums. I rather lost touch with her after that...

Devon Allman and Duane Betts. (Apparently, Berry Oakley Jr. is out of the band at this time.) I'm looking forward to a nostalgic evening of Allman Brothers music, hopefully performed competently and maybe even joyfully?

A recurring theme of apples falling not far from their respective trees:
Tonight, A. J. Croce's "Croce Sings Croce" at the Paramount Theater.
Next week, Allman Family Revival feat. Devon Allman and Duane Betts, with guests, performing the Music of the Allman Brothers Band.
Last month, Tommy Prine performs at the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction ceremony honoring Trisha Yearwood and, you guessed it, John Prine.
Also last month, The Wallflowers (Jakob Dylan) at the Paramount.

Well, I hope Eliza C's throat (see ColinB's post in recent gigs...) is OK for the Imagined Village/Working Week/Afro Celts tribute to Simon Emmerson event at The Roundhouse on Friday.
Special guests include Eliza's dad & Billy Bragg.
I don't know whether they'd approached Benjamin Zephaniah to appear (on IV's Tam Lin) before his sad diagnosis. We'll be remembering & celebrating him as well as Simon E.
A poignant evening coming up. But hopefully a celebratory one, too!

The hugely talented Olivia Chaney...if nothing else people might know her from Offa Rex (London and Brizzle to follow, I think) https://oliviachaney.ffm.to/apriltour.ZJX

The Churchfitters at Hertford ... rarely been to a gig knowing so little about the band, but it seemed a nice thing to do pre--Christmas ...
