Tonight at the Moody Amphitheater in downtown Austin -
Squeeze! With Boy George opening!
This will be fun. The weather will be a cool 88F after two weeks of 100-plus.
Seeing Chris Difford in Faringdon Town hall a good few years ago with an audience of just 50, was fabulous. Advertising was very poor but Chris didn't let the low numbers bother him and he delivered an wonderful evening of music. Yet to see Squeeze unfortunately, really intelligent pop in my book and should be a Croppers possible.

They did appear in 2012 ,would be a good singalong 80s option again, as their songs are well known by different ages I would imagine.

Squeeze, well Chris and Glenn got back together after a long break when they were doing solo stuff at a tiny SoL (Summer of Love) private party/festival (mainly for Deadheads, and run by mates of mine in Kent - still ongoing) in (from memory) 2006. There are video clips but it was just 100 people max in a field. They even stayed on site. I'm not a particular fan but it was great fun...

Saturday at ACL Live - America!
I've never seen America. We had tickets to see them with Chicago in 2015 at the Sonoma Music Festival, but we skipped the show in favor of a fine dinner. (It was a three-day fest and we skipped day one entirely.)
Earlier this year, Gerry Beckley stepped down from the duo. Now America is just the Dewey Bunnell show. Based on my research, I see that Gerry wrote and sang "Sister Golden Hair" and sang "You Can Do Magic." The late Dan Peek wrote and sang the great "Lonely People," but left the band in the late 1970s. The remaining familiar America tunes were written and sung by Bunnell ("A Horse With No Name," "Ventura Highway," "Sandman," "Tin Man"). Some may question whether this is really "America," but pound-for-pound Bunnell seems to have been the dominant songwriter.

Now I expect a backlash ….and Oasis it isn’t….. But to watch a live stream of Ashley Hutchings and Blair Dunlop tonight £18 is a bit steep for me. Yes you can pay £12 or £30 but £18 is ticketed price. Seen Blair a couple of times recently and his country tinged songwriting and his performances are now both right up there I suppose if I had better equipment ( and signal(!) I might be tempted but…. However I suppose if I was buying a video ( remember those) of the gig or even a cd , it would cost me something similar….. Thoughts…….

I think they billed it as a way of getting to see a show if there wasn't one near you (and it's not countrywide I don't think), so I can see the appeal. As for the cost, I dunno...seems about right to me...I can remember paying similar amounts for streaming gigs from the Barbican during or soon after lockdown. I can get much more aerated about bog standard artists charging £70 or this 'dynamic' pricing nonsense...

You could buy a decent bottle of wine for that money and that would be gone in the course of an evening too.

Thursday, Midge Ure at 3Ten Live (assuming I can still get a ticket).
I am thoroughly unfamiliar with Ultravox and Midge Ure's other musical contributions. All I really know about him is he had a brief stint in Thin Lizzy and hung out with Pete Townshend and Prince Charles in the '80s. I am intrigued, however, and predict I will thoroughly enjoy it.
