Playing my way through the 4 or 5 discs of Fairport Unconventional, the boxed set, in no particular order.
I'm almost certain i bought this when it was released, which was 2002. I may have played it through 5 times in the years since. It's certainly interesting, and only the odd track is unlistenable to me due to no- fi quality.

I know what I'm listening to when I listen to the Free Reed boxes these days...and they no longer enrage me with their failings...I can enjoy them on their own terms. And both of the Fairport ones are decent listened to on that basis.

I've listened to over half of the box now and have skipped 2 tracks at most.

I've been listening to some Big Country over the weekend. Started off with 'The Seer' which included guest vocals from Kate Bush on the title track. Then 'Steeltown' and 'The Crossing'.
Currently on their 1995 album 'Why The Long Face', that year being the last time I saw them in concert.

Fairpot Convention : House Full- LA Troubadour (Island CD, 2000).
I had the Hannibal LP of this for a while before this. It carries 2 extra tracks. I think it's my favourite of Fairport Live, alongside Live Convention.

I have never enjoyed "Live Convention" , whereas " LA Troubadour" features the Full House line up at the height of its powers , and surely someone could look back at the outtakes and make up a double cd / expanded version. Mind you it took Island 6 years to get round to issuing the original LP on their mid price Help label, the last time they considered these recordings . Sleeve was pretty bad too

Help edition of House Full? I didn't know about that.
I've always loved Live Convention. It was one of the first Fairport albums i went out and bought. I love Sandys singing on it.

I have the Japanese CD which combines all the House Full and Live at the LA Troubadour variants. It's fab. Jules

You mean the Final Cut? I got given a vinyl copy of this ages ago and eventually grew to like it somewhat.

Jules I like them both...don't take a specific side in that particular war tbh. Fwiw, I think David's so-so solo career is probably better than Roger's really rather disappointing one. They both made their best music when they still enjoyed being in the same room as each other.

Fairport Convention : Nine; Rising for the Moon (original Island Masters CDs, 199? ).
These sound okay and are both good Fairport albums imo.
Id like to see at least one of them reissued on LP.
