Steeleye Span Live at the Rainbow 1974 from the new boxset. The Wife of Usher's Well from this concert has been available ever since Original Masters (my introduction to Steeleye), but now the whole concert - well an hour and 10 minutes so maybe not all of it - is finally available.

My box set arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but I'm really looking forward to getting reacquainted with these albums and hearing the extra live ones too

What's the sound like? Really good, actually, to my (probably fairly unsophisticated) ears.

Camel self titled and Stationary Traveller, Oldfield Ommadawn. All on vinyl.
Then Current 93 : Earth Covers Earth (Durto CD). This last as it's good to have some roughage in my listening diet. Not for the fainthearted.

The Steeleye box Belle and Sebastian - A Bit of Previous Wilco - Cruel Country
All excellent and will be returned to.
Still to come the newbies from Drive By Truckers, Tedeschi Trucks and Nell Bryden. Gawd knows how I could fit in the Al Stewart box.

The new Katie Spencer album - The Edge of the Land.
I've been in touch with her on Twitter and am hoping she'll be able to come over this way to play a gig sometime.

Ayanna Witter-Johnson - Road runner, this album is great, not just a novelty act with amazing technical ability playing the cello, someone who has an amazing voice and understanding and explores genre bounderies and knows how to create unique songs with real proficiency at all the genres that are explored and how they can be combined. I recently saw her live at more music - morecombe and her performance was spellbinding.

Saw her at the LP launch in May , she is great live , her John Martyn covers are brilliant , but some of her own compositions will make them seem an unnecessary distraction , soon , not yet , but soon

The Dream Syndicate - Ultraviolet Battle Hymns and True Confessions. Out today. After the experimental last album this is more akin to what we've grown to expect from them. The four albums they've done since getting back together have all been excellent but this is the best so far, wonderful stuff.
Hanterhir - Nyns Eus Denvydth Bys Trest - There is No One to Trust. Like a cult B-movie soundtracked by 90s Julian Cope fronting late 70s Hawkwind according to RnR Magazine. Well maybe, but still a welcome return after a four year gap since their last.

I'd've loved to be able to go for that, but I couldn't afford it. If I win the lottery... (but I suppose you have to buy a ticket to do that )

What's the sound like? Having listened to it all now, I'd say the sound is excellent - the new remixes are clear and good. The Rainbow concert (74) is actually better than the 76 Boston one, I'd say - I think it was professionally recorded while the other was a radio broadcast.
