Interested to hear what Jules thinks of him!  

I like it. It sounds nothing like I was expecting, and I didn't even know what I was expecting. It sounds more contemporary with more elements of Americana than I thought it would have, I guess. Beefy production. Hints of Tom Waits in there, yet there's also some folk too.

Not sure if it'll get many plays, but I'm enjoying it this time around.

Painted Lady is ok, but not particularly special - Jon's 'Pop Star' album. I remember joking with Squeezy that every folkie is duty bound to release a pop star album at some time.

Then Jon wrote Songs From The Floodplain.

It was a bit like following Radiohead from Pablo Honey to OK Computer.

Meanwhile, I'm listening to Thea Gilmore - Recorded Delivery at the moment, with Regardless lined up to follow.

'Recorded Delivery' has one of my favourite songs of hers, 'You and Frank Sinatra'.  As an aside, she seems to have abandoned the alternative persona idea and is referring to herself as 'Thea Gilmore' once again.

If I understand it correctly I think the idea is that both 'projects' go side by side...and there will be further themed work under the Afterlight moniker.  I might have got that wrong though...

‘Live at Womad, 1982’.  A celebration of the 40th anniversary of the festival.  It is a very decent 2-cd compilation, with contributions from Peter Gabriel, The Beat, Pigbag, The Chieftains, Peter Hammill, Fripp, theDrummers of Burundi, and many others.

Yes, Regardless does feel like a shot for commercial recognition, not unlike the earlier Avalanche, but with more strings. There are strong moments on both those albums I think though.

Thea's probably not likely to play You and Frank Sinatra again, unfortunately (It's a Nigel song...)

And yes, Afterlight does seem to be being downplayed now. The upcoming tour is in her name. Also, the songs she produces for her Patreon subscription service are being credited as her again (and these were the main source of the material that inspired and appeared on the Afterlight album.)

Then again, Thea could call herself Clarence and sing the phone book and I'd still be happy to listen.

The Shape of the Rain album Riley Riley Wood & Waggett is a classic, a Rockfield special.

If I have a favourite year for music, this is it. I won't go on about omissions. Well okay then, Family for a start. And The Strawbs.
 But still, it was a year of many fine, diverse groups and artists. Nice to see Pete Atkin represented there.
