Would you play it much if it was on a repackaged bonus disc of Abbey Road leftovers , probably not

Today I have received two singles/EPs from sixties icons whose band members are no longer with us.
And the winner is... Micky Dolenz singing Radio Free Europe, which is really quite remarkable.
The Beatles single will grow on me I think but it is badly mixed which does not help its cause.

Just seen the video and the song then finally made sense. I'm going to say thank you to the Beatles for leaving me with so many songs and stories and this one is a good way of ending the collaboration of John, Paul, George and Ringo on an original song. I know George had reservations but maybe he is nodding in accord to what has finally been achieved with this song. This has moved me which is alll you can ask of music. |

Disco Lasers by Ebony Buckle - I saw her supporting Lifesigns recently and really enjoyed her songs (she was also one of the backing singers for Solstice at Cropredy this year), and finally got around to purchasing the album. Rather splendid - a bit Kate Bush-y, I suppose. Definitely worth checking out.

Spriguns of Tolgus : Jack With a Feather (Guerssen LP, 2023).
Nice reissue of their 1975 album. Folk rock and electric folk were still relatively new. This is reminiscent of early Steeleye.

"Bach Coltrane" by Raphael Imbert et al (outhere music/alpha-classics) - saxes, bass clarinet, organ, percussion, double bass & string quartet in a number of combinations - rather beautiful - a little like Jan Garbaerk's albums with the Hilliard Ensemble, but with only a couple of vocal tracks.

Thea Gilmore's latest offering, called 'Thea Gilmore'. I suppose that means her brief flirtation with a name change has come to an end. I'm a huge fan of hers, so I was looking forward to this immensely. It doesn't disappoint - she has gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past few years and, like the very raw 'Afterlife' album, she has drawn on that for many of the songs on this album. However, it is a very optimistic collection of songs. On first listen, it's difficult to come up with a favourite, but the previously released 'She Speaks in Colours' is a beautiful song. Looking forward to playing it again (and again.)

This is my opinion too...but for whatever reason Georgia (and I know lots of others) seem to disagree. From what I understand from a third party with some knowledge of all parties, TG and Georgia fell out big time at some point so she doesn't even really acknowledge its existence any more... |

Really like this album, but its been a few years since I listened to it. Witches Guide to the Underground is the standout track for me. I've just been listening to the new single by Harp (Tim Smith, ex-Midlake). New album 'Albion' out early December which should be a good one given the tracks released so far. |
