There's a passable live version of 'Poor Will'  on the Broughton Castle live LP.

Better than passable, I would say. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it very good.

I must look that up, I'm rather partial to a bit of Kevin Ayres, Joy of a toy is a .....joy

I really tried with Kevin Ayers. Bought his first four albums on CD and preperaed to become an instant fan. But I just didn't get it. I was waiting for great songs, but I didn't seem to hear any.

I remember Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes being played on the radio by a particular DJ a lot when I was in my teens. I loved it and consequently bought a cheap compilation in order to acquire it. Unfortunately the only track I have played repeatedly in the ensuing 40 or so years is Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes.

I can’t stop playing the new Decemberists album; easily their best since Hazards. Perfect sequencing, a really strong collection of songs. Here’s hoping for some UK dates in early September…

It's a delight!

("Joan In The Garden" will try your patience though. Worth it in the end.)

Various albums by Weather Report.

I've yet to find one I don't like, though some are more interesting than others.

This week I am mostly listening to...

As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again - The Decemberists
Two's Up - Simon Care & Gareth Turner
Vagabonds, Virgins & Misfits - Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs
One Hand Clapping - Paul McCartney & Wings
Two's Up Two - Simon Care & Gareth Turner
Various Bob Dylan bootlegs that I found lurking in a box under the bed that I didn't know I had.

Was it the bootlegs you didn't know you had, or the box?  Or even the bed?!

Well, I guess I had just forgotten about them but I have absolutely no memory of ever acquiring them. But this works both ways. I have recently been upgrading my digital library and re-ripping discs where the existing rip quality was not as high as I would like. Turns out there are several albums that I was absolutely convinced I owned on disc (CD or vinyl) but actually I only had downloads (legal ones) and other albums that I was convinced I own on disc where I have no obvious source for the original files at all!

Definitely knew about the bed. I sleep in it every night. Knew there was stuff under it (it is an ottoman bed) but couldn't remember exactly what. Had no memory at all of some of the contents of the box.

I had to google 'Open Fire' - the Gregson song?

The Breeders:  Last Splash  (4AD 2X 45rpm LP+ 12",  transparent/red vinyl,  annivrrsary edition, 2023).

Speculative/out of character purchase.  I really rather enjoy it.  Grungy guitars,  pure analogue mastering,  indie rock.

Proxy Music by Linda Thompson which is wonderful. It seems to be a vey autobiographical album which is ironic considering that Linda doesn't sing a note of it. The opening track is so good that I almost wish Linda had asked Kami to sing the whole album. Warning for those of a nervous disposition, Rufus Wainwright is very Rufus Wainwright.

Ironically, I have been listening to nothing but Rufus Wainwright since seeing/ hearing him on Saturday…it truly was the greatest performance I have ever experienced.
