Various  :   Georgia on My Mind   ( CD, 1997).

A limited edition tribute to Sandy Denny.

A number of known artists and one or 2 others play a varied selection of tracks, some of which will be unique to this compilation.

Swarbrick/ Nichol   :  Close to the White Bear  (Woodworm  CD, 1998).

This is nice- a pairing of 2 early releases by the duo.

Doesn't it miss off one or two tracks to fit it on one CD.  Their version of RT's Pavanne, if I remember correctly.

On the 33rd anniversary of his death, we are fondly remembering Freddie Mercury (5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) by listening to Queen today.

He was definitely a One.

I’m having a vinyl Sunday. The Band - Rock of Ages, Psychedelic Furs - Forever Now, J. Geils Band - Blow Your Face Out, Motorhead - Overkill and Eric Clapton - Steppin’ Out.

Psychedelic Furs - Forever Now

A few weeks back I did those first three Furs albums back to back.  Just brilliant - some of the best music around.  We saw them a few years back - still great.  When I had a second hand bookshop in Sedbergh twenty years back, the Butler boys' Ma used to come in and talk about how worried she was about her lads with all their naughty US based habits.  Lovely lady.  Utterly hilarious.

I wonder how the Butlers' mum ended up in the far North.

I very much enjoyed the first four Furs LPs, and now and then I return to them. It's an interesting journey as they shed members one by one and then embrace soft-focus commercial production. Richard's rasp, his lyrics, and a hint of melancholy in the melody lines always kept things interesting. I'm less enamoured with the sound of the guitars which always seemed to be awash in reverb and/or chorus, but maybe that's just me.

I saw them live at Glastonbury in 1986 and by then they'd become horribly flash and shallow. Their fifth LP was appalling. I blame their "naughty US based habits".

The Rails :  Fair Warning  (Island CD, 2014).

Again I'm  surprised how old a release is getting. Haven't played his one for a while.

They were on just before The Cure were on, weren't they?  Forgotten I'd seen that, but I did.  Well, sort of.  Exceedingly altered states, innit... Wink  I then spent the night 'sleeping' in a Mini with 3 mates.  It's easy when you're 19, isn't it... Grin

Not sure if The Cure were on after because I'd have avoided them and gone in search of something else.

I was 19, going on 20, too.

I don't remember what I slept in, but I think it would have been roomier than a mini.   Shocked

A copy of Quicksilver's Shady Grove which took a while to get to me after ordering a vinyl copy on eBay. It was returned to the seller with the address label apparently covered in mud. Anyway it has arrived, better late than never.

Nice story about the closing track, "Edward, The Mad Shirt Grinder". From Wikipedia...

“Edward” was a nickname for Nicky Hopkins, made up by Brian Jones during a 1967 session at Olympic Studios in London. The story goes that Jones was tuning his guitar and asked Hopkins to give him an E on the piano; with other noise interfering and Nicky unable to hear what he was saying, Brian eventually shouted out: "Give me an E, like in Edward!"

I've been conflating my Friday and my Saturdays.  Fri night was LSD night for young David..especially during the Waterboys and the Pogues (not assisted by the strangely hirsute Elvis Costello standing very near me watching his good lady in the latter). Sat night was The Cure, the Mini and the rain... https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/history/history-1986/

I don't remember any rain.

I was also on softer drugs than you!
