The Unthanks on Radcliffe and Maconie..It starts around 1hr 10 in...  doing their winter stuff...Tar Barrel et al.  I know they're a bit marmite for some (inexplicably to me) but I adore them...so if they're your thing, do jump in

Didnt listen to radmac this morning, as coincidentally I was listening to the Unthanks latest album which will probably become a seasonal favourite.

Did you read the Times review of that?

We saw the tour in Liverpool last year but were unable to make a show this.  We're getting the album for Chrimbo..  On a given day they're just about my favourite band on the planet.

There's a very interesting Word In Your Ear podcast interview with Al Stewart that's just gone up: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/how-al-stewart-struck-gold-the-folk-boom-and-a/id1567029088?i=1000680979565.

Amazing Blondel  :  Evensong / Fantasia Lindum  (BGO CD,  2004).

Another CD which has languished in my collection unplayed for some time, years in fact.  It's really rather good.

I had both of these albums back in the day. I used to love Amazing Blondel.

I think they might have reformed in latter years.

Over the Next Hill.
Absolutely terrific, tremendously underrated, fabulous playing and Gerry at his percussive best. I would (and will) argue that side one sits with the very best of FCs one-sided output.

I don't know much of Fairport's albums after the classic early era so thought having read this, I'd check it out on Youtube. It's a lovely album, great writing and fab playing. Different to the early days but the band had moved on as they had to do. I've been guilty of largely ignoring their output since the halcyon days, there have been quite a few negative comments here which didn't help inspire me to investigate further. But I'm now thinking I should get myself upto date with more albums. Thanks Shane.

Definitely my favourite of the 'current' (you know what I mean) lineup, and in fact the only one I can easily listen to without wincing.  Two decades old, eh?  Cripes...

I'm in much the same position aas regards the Fairport catalogue. Anything after 1975 i consider 'later Fairport'.

Later Fairport equates to 19 albums for you, then...out of 29.  I feel like this about the Stones too.  What's half a century between friends?

Indeed 🙂

I don't take a hard line on this. From memory, i know i possess 3 'later' Fairport albums, these being  Bonny Bunch of Roses,  Farewell Farewell and In Real Time.  I enjoy all of them from time to time, and woudn't  part with them. 2 are vinyl and Farewell Farewell is a cassette (RGF) though i see vinyl is still available and is on my wish list.

I'd say that The Wood & The Wire, Festival Bell and Shuffle and Go are all worth a listen though I must admit I haven't given FB a listen in a while.

As with RT's back catalogue I have my favourites, though recently I've been going for the Richard & Linda era albums.

"Over The Next Hill" features "Canny Capers" which is a masterpiece - I wish they'd resurrect it in concert.

In fact, as I've mentioned previously, the instrumentals are one of the major strengths of the current ("you know what I mean" - davidmjs) lineup.

1996's Baptist Hospital from Boo Hewerdine. A great album by a great artist who, to my knowledge, has never graced the stage of Cropredy and that's just a shame.

The opening track is just great.

He played with Eddi just 4 months ago, didn't he?

He's so much more than a backing musician tho'. Great musician and song writer with a fabulous, droll sense of humour to make him an engaging performer.

Yes, Boo is a great musician and songwriter. A lot of his songs are picked up by Eddi and she performs them well.

I've seen him solo several times and think he would be a great solo act for Cropredy.
