I love it, my favourite of theirs. Back to the topic: I've been listening to a lot of Grateful Dead recently. I've had a few albums for decades, but just recently they have really clicked with me in a big way. I've picked up all their studio albums and live albums such as Dead Set, Reckoning and Europe - the live albums released when they were still a band. Also some box sets of archive releases such as Nighfall of Stars and Madison Gardens. |

I'd say that The Wood & The Wire, Festival Bell and Shuffle and Go are all worth a listen though I must admit I haven't given FB a listen in a while.
As with RT's back catalogue I have my favourites, though recently I've been going for the Richard & Linda era albums. Myths and Heroes is my favourite of the recent albums. Only (gulp) 10 years old this coming year... |

Earthspan runs it pretty close imo It's certainly a lot (lot!) better than the genuinely accepted wisdom (but one could probably say that about every ISB album after Wee Tam & the Big Huge) To get back on topic, whilst working, here I'm listening to the Unthanks Diversions albums in order. |

Just diving into the new addition to the collection, which arrived yesterday-Bear Family’s 20 Disc Memphis Blues Box 1914-1969-534 tracks, sumptuous 360 LP sized hardcover book. Obviously a lot to digest but I loved the Bear Family Bakersfield box I got last year and been eyeing this one for a while. Big names include B.B. King, Rufus Thomas, Howlin’ Wolf and Ike & Tina Turner are here as well as loads of unknown to me covering the peak of the years when Memphis was the place. The design and layout of the book is incredible. And the restored sound on the older material seems excellent!

I was aware it had had its first vinyl release (the CD release was 1995, and i knew i have that) but not that it was sitting in my collection still sealed. Forgotten so much that i actually had it in my amazon basket for imminent purchase this year.

When browsing the Cherry Red sale catalogue recently, I discovered that there was another recent Long Ryders album I wasn't aware of (September November, released in 2023). The previous one Psychedelic Country Soul having been such a wonderful album, I decided I should invest. It arrived this morning, and after my first listen, I'd have to say that despite some excellent songs, it doesn't quite match up to PCS, but it is definitely worth investigating if others were also unaware of its existence, like me.

This one had completely passed me by - Dave Pegg & Friends - Birthday Party until somebody mentioned it as a 25p chazzer shop find on FB the other week. Anyway mine cost me a bit more than that but was still good value. I agree. I'm a long time Ryders fan and thought Psychedelic Country Soul was wonderful. The latest doesn't quite hit the mark but they were terrific live in Shoreham in October. |
