John Renbourn : The John Renbourn Sampler. (Earmark LP, 2003).
I've had So Clear -volume 2, forever, i think it was the first JR album i bought, back in the 70s.
This one has been sitting in my collection , inexplicably unplayed for at least a decade. It's marvellous.

i cant get on with Lucinda Williams doing The Beatles and i love both.. it just doesnt work for me... I can get on with Ian McNabb doing Fleetwood - havent had the pleasure of Baskery doing Neil Young |

Recently I went down a YouTube rabbit hole of videos by The Collins Kids. I had heard one or two songs on a rockabilly collection, but man oh man, watching them is a thrill. Larry playing the hell out of the double neck guitar, while simultaneously singing harmony and dancing around like crazy, and Lorrie delivering great lead vocals and holding the entire thing together. They were really so good, wonderful entertainers, and they should have been massive. I’m also listening to the Ian McNabb Fleetwood Mac album. Really good, and a great selection of songs from their entire career. Particularly enjoying Hypnotised (a personal fave) |

Still have some of her albums - the live one i s especially good, and recently got a CD reissue. There's a large box of her BBC sessions out too, for the dedicated. |

I bought the vinyl remastered reissue of SFAS a couple of years ago. Although i haven't heard every Renaissance album, this one is my favourite. |

I bought Back and Fourth when it came out. Mostly I was pleased that the original line up was back together - and the inclusion of Run for Home and Marshall Riley's Army was reason alone for having it. Some more great songs on it, but I was disappointed with some others and, of course, the amount of syrupy strings.

The Pentangle Through the Ages 1984-95 box set https://www.cherryred.co.uk/pentangle-through-the-ages-19841995-6cd-clamshell-box-set?srsltid=AfmBOoq1iTjHyfU5W70IBX6a-rB99xQz7YMf79q3jJ3nAwkD9t3PYViPI've been toying with this but the price seems to be creeping up now and I found a cheap copy so thought why not. It is of course kind of the law of diminishing returns as original members drop off (John had already left after the '82 reunion before we get going here) but the first two at least are bloody decent and there is some very good material scattered throughout...and the occasional absolute clanger. As long as you go in with your eyes wide open, I'd recommend. |
