This one had completely passed me by - Dave Pegg & Friends - Birthday Party until somebody mentioned it as a 25p chazzer shop find on FB the other week.  Anyway mine cost me a bit more than that but was still good value.

It's his 50th Birthday bash from Dudley Town Hall, and it features everybody, the current Fairport (must be DMs last gig?), Jerry, Roger Hill, Swarb, Ian Campbell, Maart etc etc

https://www.discogs.com/release/4473904-Dave-Pegg-And-Friends-Birthday-Party

I was surprised how strong it is...

I was there for that. I haven't played it in a while, but I guess that one bit of the night not included, because it wouldn't make for good CD material, was a live phone call from a certain Mr Anderson to Peggy's mobile. 'It's the boss!' Another bit was Peggy being presented with a bass guitar constructed from the old bar from the Half Moon at Putney. Peggy's comment after using it for the first time was 'It's f%*£&n' loud isn't it ?'

Dorie Jackson Stupid Says Run.  As mentioned elsewhere, this arrived yesterday, and I have just given it it's first couple of listens, and it is a definite keeper.  Highly recommended.  Intelligent, well-written songs, beautifully performed.

Tunng's new one , Love You All Over Again. Took me a while to appreciate the singles from this but I'm enjoying them, and now the album. The sound harks back to their first two albums - DIY, lo-fi folktronica.

Another vote of support for this from me.

Mainly due to the recent shows in memory of guitarist and songwriter Tony Clarkin appearing on my FB timeline, I've been listening to quite a lot of, er, Magnum.  About as unfashionable a band as it is possible to have but they had some absolutely corking songs.  I only saw them once...at the Marquee in '84...and have barely listened to them for 4 decades.  You'll find them halfway down my 'guilty pleasures' list....

Magnum are also one of those bands for me.  I only really know a limited amount of their output - basically from Chase The Dragon to On A Storytellers Night, which I enjoy, but I did recently splash out also on the last album.

Know anything about this lot?  Entirely new to me, but some mates went to see the latest lineup at Cafe OTO last week and were raving.

Just listened to this, and, cripes...personally, this is the kind of sh1t I like...

The Wailin' Jennys - '40 Days'. Lovely blended voices. Hard to believe the album is 20 years old.

Echo On by Jack Lukeman. I have been following him since a concert at the Olympia in Dublin (over 20 years ago now, yikes!). There have been one or two albums where I think he ‘over sang’ a little too much…meaning the nuance of his powerful voice got lost in the volume. This album the nuance is back, and it reminds me of his earlier albums such as Metropolis Blue and Universe. He can still belt it out like an opera singer, but the surrounding music is less obtrusive, so this is a really good effort to me

Adwaith - Solas, their new double album released today, and surely to figure in my (and quite a few others) end of year lists.  It's brilliant.  And on Welsh Language Music Day.

By slightly weird coincidence I've been listening to Luke Jackson today. I got a copy of his new album Bloom this morning so have given that a couple of listens and am now on to one of his early releases Fumes and Faith.

Listening to Solstice's Return To Cropredy album - I know their appearance in 2023 divided opinion, but I was on the positive side, and I'm enjoying reliving it on what is an excellently recorded album.

The Sundays :  Reading Writing and Arithmetic  (Geffen  LP,  grey coloured vinyl ,  2023).

Paid rather more than a usual LP price   for  this as it was only released in the US, but gosh it was worth it.  A delightful record. This version is done from the original tapes.

Tracey Chapman's eponymous 1988 album. Even after all these years I find this an affecting and enjoyable album.

Room to Roam by The Waterboys, our joint Valentine’s prezzy was the vinyl remastered at 45rpm. I am sure one of you gurus will explain why it has been remastered at 45 instead of 33rpm.

Anyway, it sounds amazing and so good to hear those beautiful songs, which mean a lot to the pair of us.

I know about half speed mastering which makes sense to me...but surely this is the opposite of that, or am I missing something?

Anyway, it's a corking album...I've got that Magnificent Seven CD box set, which is fab.
