Before Gareth Turner's sad demise, I had a long chat with him at the New Forest Folk Festival. He told me that he was very proud that he and Simon Care had (at last!) recorded a second album that would be released this year together with their first from 1997.

He told me that he had said to Simon he wished his share of any profits to go to The Cynthia Spencer Hospice Northampton, who did such an excellent job in looking after him, making sure he got out to a few last gigs and welcoming his musical pals in at all times of the day and night as they passed by on their tours.

He also told me that Simon was donating his share to the same cause.

Having received and played through "Two's Up Two" this morning, I thoroughly recommend it and urge you to buy it and support this rather wonderful cause.

The double album will be released by Talking Elephant records, and available through most music sales outlets.

In fact my pre-order arrived last week, so a visit to the Talking Elephant website might be worthwhile.....
The CD itself is brilliant by the way!

Can I ask a stupid (& potentially insensitive, I apologise, question)? Is this entirely melodeon/accordian based or do they use other instrumentation/musicians on the backing tracks?

Well the first album definitely had instrumental backing...not that this answers your question about this one, of course...

I'm guessing that Phil will be in demand to do more of this sort of work now that SoH have called it a day. A useful person to have in the studio.

As well as Phil, the guest musicians on the second album are Nick Ellison on fiddle  and Tim Walker on percussion and bass neither of whom I am familiar with plus the multitalented Guy Fletcher on mandocello, fiddle and guitar who I do know... Grin
