Just look at theatre - musicals and...er, that's it. As in so many markets, the economics don't make sense any more. |

The Hills of California The Human Body Nye Dr Strangelove (never performed on stage) Giant The Fear of 13 The Buddha of Suburbia Minority Report Punch Wish You Weren’t Here Shifters The Women of Llanrumney Spirited Away The Frogs A Child of Science The Boy at the Back of the Class The Human Body Ben and Imo Between Riverside and Crazy Withnail and I (foirst stage adaptation) Not all London at all, all new plays in 2024. None of those musicals. Undoubtedly there are others. |

I'm not quite sure why you're pushing back so strongly on this? If you think this is a golden era for dramatic companies and venues taking risks on new and unproven material, you are quite simply mistaken. There's acres of press out there about the difficulties facing commercial theatre, and the dumbing down of options to satisfy audiences for venues and funders as available monies get spread thinner and thinner. It's exactly the same in theatreland as it is in gig venues, and indeed (to get us back on topic) music festivals...

Whilst I get that there are plenty of other theatrical releases, the current top 10 selling shows in London does seem to indicate that there is an abundance of old/ musical versions of old film's:
Sister act
Tina
Mrs Doubtfire
Matilda
The lion King
Back to the future
The Book of Mormon
Mama Mia
Les Miserables
Faulty Towers
Nothing new there (but I guess familiarity sells).
