Box Set contents-inside or outside?

Informal survey for you all…

When I get a new boxset (latest The Memphis Blues box) I generally rip the CDs to Itunes, and then everything stays forever in the box. But I wanted to see what others generally do? CD’s added to the main collection if in sleeves? Books taken out for the coffee table? I’m genuinely curious what others do! The only thing so far I remove is any collectible prints or photos. I recently framed the poster from the new Fairport box, as well as the portraits from the Horslips box. The collector in me says keep the contents in the box, but  sometimes I get tempted !

 Very similar here, I rip them to the Pc and also iTunes .
Read/ look at the books and paraphernalia then put them back in the box.  We have a Jack Russell and a grandson, both of whom are very inquisitive and put the precious things in peril

Yes, me too - rip the CDs to iTunes, and look at the rest, read the book(lets), but then it all goes into the box for storage.

It is for the best, but my wife’s field is art, including art publications and she loves the layouts of so many of the accompanying books that she asked me if I wanted them out on display. She particularly loves the design of the Horslips, Blondie, and Runrig’s The Last Dance. In the aesthetic sense. But tempted as I am, for longevity of the contents, including the CD’s I now keep them intact. I lost all the boxes to the Free Reed sets years ago after deciding to keep the contents out and I regret it now

I play the CDs and then file the box, with all contents, on a shelf with other boxed sets of the same kind of size. I may even get it out and play the CDs a second time. Or not. I've really slowed down on buying stuff.

Same here. I used to judiciously rip the CDs to iTunes before storing them in the book cases, but I've even stopped doing that because I have too much of a backlog. I stream more often than listen to my old, cracked iPod these days.

My commute is 2.5-3 hours round trip currently so I still rely on Itunes via my phone to get through it. At home I haven’t had a dedicated CD player for years so play the ripped music via the laptop + stereo. In terms of the CD’s on the boxsets since they typically are slipcases with recreated sleeves, I keep those in the box since the details are generally in the books now when needed for reference. I suppose what the dilemma is more so the books.
